Sammy Cahn: Instigator

It was one of the hottest Julys in Hollywood California. It was the year 1945 and Sammy Cahn was penning the lyrics to a love song.

"The weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful, and since we've no place to go..."

And you know the rest.

Tonight Sammy Cahn is a bastard. I do have places to go and I have no corn for poppin'. I have a spring cleaning list ten miles long but I can't start it if spring won't come. You have the weekend snow. Consider that a warning. Consider it a threat.

Spring's Over Before It Began

madoff_mets.gi.top

I'm not talking about how it's snowing out right now, and will be for the next two days. I'm talking about baseball. Opening Day. And everyone's already counted my team out. I get the Madoff thing, but last time I checked he didn't make the line-up. A billion dollar lawsuit hangs over their head, but it's not like Ike Davis is gonna have to hitchhike down I-95 to Atlanta. Yes, if the season isn't going well by the break we will probably see Reyes pack his bags, but I don't think that's any kinda nail in the coffin. Maybe they could get a decent starting pitcher for him. Or maybe... wanna switch Hank?

Mets need a good makeover. Half the pitching staff is brand new. Interested to see how Capuano & Young work out. A couple new outfielders, like Scoot Hairston who killed everything this spring, ex-Met killer Willie Harris and new guy Lucas Duda, and sparkling new infielders Brad Emaus and Chin-lung Hu. Abbot & Costello loyalists are gonna have a field day with that one.

And then of course there's their opponents. Nothing like going up against a pitching staff that's 80% aces in Philadelphia or the batting lineup on steroids that Atlanta bought out this off season. It's easy to be pessimistic I suppose.

Mets-Pitchers

Opening day is today but the Mets don't play until tomorrow night down in Miami. Here we go. I gotta pick up some beer. Good luck everybody.

(Finally) Shaved/Towed/Birthed

I am surrounded by procrastination, 99% of which is generated by myself. Today, unplanned, three things that have been on the verge of completion came to fruition. Let's count them down.

#1: I shaved

P1260406
Laura had been on me about this and has recently gone on a kiss strike, picketing around the bed and the front door. I knew I had to take immediate action but was nervous that my infant daughter would no longer recognize me. She was a little concerned at first, looking at me and not quite knowing who I was, but a few daddy games and she had all but forgotten about the old face beard.
---------

#2: Towed the Dakota

P1260415
I crashed the truck in December. Icy roads, early morning, windy pass, bad combination. I'm not sure why it took us three months to contact the insurance company. They asked me. I had no good answer. I tried to come up with an excuse but could only come up with the word bandits. It's easy to forget about even a large object as such when it's buried in snow for three months. Long story short: that may be the last time we ever see Sparkle Motion Emerald Pearl.

#3: Fawsja had kittens

P1260421
Fawsja got pregnant before we got a chance to get her fixed like her sisters, so this winter we watched her get fatter and fatter. For awhile I thought she was just really packing on a winter coat. But today she kicked the boys out of their day-nap spot, the warmest and safest place in the whole yard, and popped out some kids. At first I saw only two, but upon further examination later on in the day I counted three sets of ears. They seem to blend in quite well.
