These Are A Few Of My Thankfullest Things

This year I am thankful for...

This beyond perfect rhubarb pie

Our new pup

Yuula learning to cook

And knowing my weaknesses

The other flightless bird

Friends from yonder

This flavor combination

Yuula sleeping in appropriate places

Another top-notch turkey

Alcohol.

Replenish Your Blossoming Bacchanal

song of the day

It's the pronunciation

Turkey Surrogate

This is a thing...

It's called a cockentrice.

Here's the recipe:

...take a capon, scald it, drain it clean, then cut it in half at the waist; take a pig, scald it, drain it as the capon, and also cut it in half at the at the waist; take needle and thread and sew the front part of the capon to the back part of the pig; and the front part of the pig to the back part of the capon, and then stuff it as you would stuff a pig; put it on a spit, and roast it: and when it is done, gild it on the outside with egg yolks, ginger, saffron, and parsley juice; and then serve it forth for a royal meat.

Oh and for the thrift-hearted out there, don't worry. We won't let any go to waste.

I call it the gobblehog.

See Ya Green

There it is folks. First snow of the season. And I still have leaves on the ground. In all fairness I had more than enough opportunities to get them all up before it snowed this year. I chose not to. Don't let me fool you. Because I'll try. Don't fall for it. I'm just lazy enough that it works every year.

Shhhh

Left To Color Alone

I was in the zone

Not sure what I was going for

Itchy Shutter Finger

Yuula nabbed my phone and stumbled upon the camera.

I like them.

Gonna need some new frames.

Ballerinas In Spurs

This past weekend was country western day at dance class, for no reason whatsoever.

She was suspicious of our intentions at first but all was made clear soon enough.

Yee Ha!

Self-Playing Schmaltz

song of the day

cools

Pre-Apocalypsy

So, that was a week. Nothing apocalyptic. Nothing post-apocalyptic. I guess it was all pre-apocalyptic.

Highlights, let's see, we watched Argo on Sunday. Oooh and the Giants won. Look out playoffs, someone's 4-6.

Laura's been battling a nasty cough, but that's all. Yuula has it too, but only in the morning, then it just goes away. I have nothing, as per usual.

We got outside for a split second, to trim down some of the yard, but after about 4 hours and no noticeable difference, I quit.

Here's to a busy weekend and a holiday week.

I Regretfully Withdraw My Offer To Improve Myself

song of the day

Every year there is one album that shakes me up a little, emotionally, lyrically, whatever, and it hadn't realy happened yet, til today, and Spencer Krug is not messing around anymore.

Honorable Mention

phew

Kidless Wifeless Hapless

This is how I started the day, like all the other, feet in my back, hand in my face. But after that I have been kid free. We pawned her off on the Trunks today. They asked for her so... here!

Me (as if you cared) I been chilling. Laura's at work, and I ain't doing nothing. Watched some TV. My shows. Stuff that nobody wants to watch but me. Listened to loud music loudly. I skipped lunch (unintentionally) and ate a whole pizza for dinner while I watched the UGA/Auburn game during which the sportscaster said that it was the craziest 4th quarter he'd ever seen. That's the only part I watched.

Listened to lots of music and worked on some little of my personal projects I got going on that I can never give enough time to. Using the computer for funtime stuffs makes my carpal tunnel go away.

So Laura just got home and Yuula comes home tomorrow, probably against her will, and it's back to the basics. No better way. Today was lame.

Lydia Ivy

Congrats Bubba and Theresa!

Can't wait to see that full head of hair!

Brighter The Criminal I Hope You Escape

song of the day

Am I yearning for a summer evening or something?

Dined Like Asian Kings

We planned to have some pizza for dinner, but all along Laura knew she was going to subtly drop a hint about that new Chinese Buffet down the road and how "we haven't been able to check that out yet". Not subtle at all actually. But pregnant lady gets what pregnant lady wants so off to Royal Asian Buffet to load up on some MSG - My Sick Gut.

Can you guess whose plate that was?

Too Cool For Tickles

Let This Caged Bird Fly

I can tell this is going to be a long winter. Between waiting for the baby and the holidays and this child being cooped up. It could get ugly. We may look to get her into a pre-school of sorts come the new year, let her harass some other people for a couple days a week. Let her hassle someone else about imaginary heart candy or playing patty cake for the ten millionth time or why we won't name the baby Ostrich. And I know, I should "enjoy these days" and "savor every moment" but I think she would savor and enjoy the days a whole lot more if she had someone less glued to a chair and tap tap tapping away on the keyboard.

We Rise In The Dying

song of the day

lotsa good stuff today, I had to cut it down

Rough-Housing And Rasslin'

She Makes The Tag Rules

What Do You Call This: De-Seeding?

Whatever it is, I did it. I like this thing, but I figured I'd best figure out what's going on in there. All I ever see is the juice form, or maybe a little seed here or there. It is intimidating, and daunting for a frigin piece of fruit, but still...

It's kind of a like a combination of a bunch of fruits, apple on the outside, orange on the inside, and grapes deeper still. And then at some point I feel like I'm literally pulling teeth. Kinda cool.

Now I just got to figure out what to eat it with.

Eight Pence Or Thirteen Cents

I'm gonna try this, at some point here

Red Baron Down

A little piece of my childhood died today

Pointed Fangs Without Scope

song of the day

some B-sides aren't

I've converted

I liked these guys in high school, last week

I'm A 1:45 Kinda Guy

Gotta brush up on my toaster skills these days

Bring On The Yanis Marshall Master Class

Cold Rakes / Suddenly Humungous

I almost didn't notice all the leaves had finally fallen from the trees today, but now the ground is too frozen to rake them up. Am I the only one who cannot figure this out?

I actually had about 4 hours of peace and quiet today, while the girls went to the store and Laura's doctors appointment. Diagnosis: healthy as a horse. No dice in early leave. And Yuula got some new pajamas because she's suddenly humungous.

Are You Sitting Down

song of the day

slightly underwhelming, due it's comparatively simplistic and stripped-down nature, but I'll no doubt love it all come February 2014

Then Nothing Happened

quite the storyteller

Raising A Lil' Jazz Cat

Apparently Yuula likes jazz music. I'm not sure where she learned that there is such a thing, I don't think the cartoons touch on music genres these days, and I'm not sure that she really knows what in fact she's asking for, but she seems to like what happens when she says "Can we hear some jazz?". How do you say no to that?

She doesn't like it all however. She wasn't digging the classic Charlie Parker stuff and hasn't quite yet gotten into Ornette Coleman, but that's okay, because neither did I til I was 27. She did make a valid point tho, in saying, "Daddy, there's lots of different jazz."

Correct.

These are some of her favorites so far...

Nothing If Not Subtle

song of the day

newly shuffled Midlake started strong and then disappeared, and the Blood Orange made me, well, want a blood orange

Blue Monday Blues

She wanted to go to bed at 3 o'clock today

I seriously thought about it

But I knew that'd mean a middle of the night visitor for me

Which kind of happens lately anyhow

and we don't mind
