I'm Home

Oh I like this one... One dog goes one way, the other dog goes the other way, and this guy's sayin', "Whadda ya want from me?"

I'm sitting on April's couch, as another adventure in Miami comes to a close, trying to decide between a program on Nostradamus' lost predicitions or witnessing the inhumanity of this supremely disappointing world series. Both are extremely disturbing right now so I may just find some cartoons somewhere. I need lighthearted.

Miami, as expected, was great. "Fabulous" they'd say. I've settled into my role here quite nicely (ifIdosaysomyself) and can really just sit back and enjoy spending time with some of my favorite people. Speaking of favorite people, Hayden Rhodes came over tonight and joined the rest of the staff for some pizza & beer. Some of my favorite times in Boston involved Hayden and it's awesome to get to hang out again, as brief as it may be. He's one of the good ones.

I did finally get my Chicken Kitchen dinner, my favorite restaurant in Miami, and some say the only reason I actually come down here anymore. It was delicious and filling. But other than that, nothing of much consequence went on here this weekend. I guess that's a good thing. Being relatively uneventful.

Anyhow, I'm babbling on, trying not to watch the Red Sox score another run. On to the photos:

April gave us a tour of her new country club, and then breaks into hysterics. Luckily Greg was there to catch her.

South Beach & Me = B.F.F.

I flew into Ft. Lauderdale on what could arguably be one of the roughest flights I've ever experienced. Circling the airport for almost 30 minutes due to an fuel leak on the runway, resulting in a gaggle of emergency vehicles to rush the airport didn't ease my tension ay. But after 6 vodka/cranberries at April's new digs, all that went away.

Here's Ray
dscn6463

We spent the night catching up some talking about the show, but mostly laughing and eating. I'm still full.

Woke up early this morning for no reason. Rehearsals not til noon.
dscn6473

Greg slept in.
dscn6471

April woke him up with the lull of the local radio. Something about sexy on a dancefloor somewhere.
dscn6475

Just finished a delicious breakfast, lovingly prepared by April & her beau Marcos.

Sorry for the blurry photos. Miami puts me in a perpetual haze so they're actually quite accurate.

ciao

I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You

In all my excavations into popular and not-so-popular music that the world has to offer, it's refreshing when you come across something as nice as a feelgood singalong by kids who are just trying to make some good music. The politcal-correctly named Black Kids have done just that, and I for one cannot get enough of their tunes. Go get 'em while they're free.

Our 'America's Next Top Model' themed visit To Boston

On what may be our last vacation for awhile, we visited Eric in Boston last weekend. He just moved into a new place near Davis Square so we were excited to sleep on a new floor and just hang around with his new roommates.

Eric tries to stay in bed, but is summoned by the call of an 'America's Top Model' marathon

Rest on the porch is interrupted only by the realization of "Hey! We're in Boston! Why are we just sitting on this porch!?"

While I wait, I ponder what ideological effects a program like 'America's Next Top Model' can have on such a vacuous culture of inclusion & exploitation that we allow ourselves to inhabit, & then realize my t-shirt is a little snug.

Influenced by the morning's programming, Eric & Fran strike poses in hopes that they too will be discovered....

...and settle on a Near/Far theme.

We wait for a speeding train to allow us a more windblown look, very popular this season.

For inspiration, I recall my formative years riding the early morning T in the frigid New England winters and have a fleeting & temporary affinity for global warming.

The Fierce & Fuzzy motif came off more Carebear than grizzly.

A silver stallion appears seemingly from thin air, inspiring us to live this day to it's fullest and not bind ourselves with the chains of sorrow and reverie.

Newbury Street brought us the day's slightly breathtaking moment.

A long day deserves a good nap on a busy train.

Travis finally meets a tiny chihuahua that he can get behind.

Eric dons the traditional garb for a New England farewell ceremony.

Handfuls

Haha, those predictions were terrible huh? I guess I'll stick with the only one I got right, the Rockies, to win it all, and that was only out of wishful thinking; damn Phillies. But sadder than that, there's only a handful of games left of my beloved baseball. What to do?

Ok life update:

Home
So Francesca & I moved up here a lil' over a month ago with home buying on the brain. We've since scouted out a handful of homes in areas that we've been researching since the summer only to find out, they're not really what we want (this is a big decision now). We are looking for someplace we can live & grow for at least 10 years, so it's gotta be a winner. So we're fine with it for now, and we continue to look, as the options have been growing exponentially in the past few weeks. More on this later...

Family
Mom & Dad are good. Oddly enough, we haven't seen much of them lately, those busy bees. Hopefully we can get together this weekend to watch a handful of football games. Haven't heard much from Dani since the wedding/party event, but I have reason to believe that she may be partially involved with some publicized incidents in Chicago this past weekend. Tyler turns 25 tomorrow & he's coming over for some london broil & vanilla cake in the evening. As a gift I will give him the CTA card I've been carrying in my wallet for over two years which he can utilize on his upcoming trip to Chicago. Happy birthday bro!

Travel
We just back from a fantastic weekend in Boston/New Hampshire. Leaf peeping, pumpkin picking, stalk destroying; too many things really to put in this already bulky blogging, but never fear. We will devote a handful of separate posts, one for each mini-adventure we had while staying with our beloved Eric Brust.

Music
I received the new Radiohead yesterday. Their novel approach to releasing the album made it unavoidable, even after my record buying self-ban of the past 5 months. I paid €7.09. No real barn burners here, or whatever Radiohead would subject a barn to were they so inclined. Most of the tracks don't raise the pulse above a moderately tempered chill, but it's still Radiohead. It's still awesome.

Other than that:

-I love, to a surprising degree, the new Josh Ritter album (we should've gone to that show in Somerville last weekend)

-Devendra Banhart made another utterly listenable album, hard to do nowadays

-the new Animal Collective is still awesome but I need to spend more time on it

-and of the course the latest from Most Serene Republic strongly pleading it's case for album of the year

Obviously I've got handfuls of new albums to listen to, why, I'm doing it right now. So I feel that there will be many more recommendations made, for those of you who benefit from my highly tuned musical prowess.

Movies
Just saw 'The Darjeeling Limited' this weekend. Of course I loved it, but it wasn't all just the typical Wes Anderson presentation. Yes there was randomly scattered dialogue, the twisted characters, the badass slow motion moments set to Kinks tunes, even brilliant cameos by Anjelica Houston, Bill Murray & Natalie Portman, but this movie seemed a little different. Maybe a little more serious. Aww is Wes growing up. And he can do no wrong.

But this will be the best movie of the year

yeah, that's a handful huh?

TV
Not quite as interesting. Aside from being forced to watch (imagine Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange) a handful of shows like 'What Not To Wear', 'Big Brother' (which is not about me) and 'The Barefoot Contessa' (WHAT!?!) I've been glued to ESPN, since like April. I guess I've missed sports. I have a love/hate thing going on with Jim Rome, and Around the Horn with Toni Reali & Woody Paige is the funniest show on TV. Those PTI guys aren't bad either. I'm having trouble making the transition into football & basketball seasons, but I think this weekend when the Giants go 4-2 and the Cowboys drop to 5-1 it will make things more interesting. PS I love Skip Bayless.

Cats
They're asleep.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm hoping to write more often, by the handfuls, on the personal things, like the music infiltrating my ears & the movies I've been viewing as-of-late, just never thought it was all that interesting. So there it is.

MLB Playoffs

So with the Miserable Mets out of the picture, I'm gonna take a stab, an utterly wild guess at how this season is gonna pan out. This is purely uneducated, but I got no horse in the race so what do I care. All reasoning will be kept confidential.

Let's see how close I come.

Six Months Baby

Six months today. Not bad so far. We woke up to a 4 hour history channel special on Hitler & the Nazi influence in modern society. Then we drove to Stop & Shop, which was on fire, so we went to Shoprite instead. Kind of a violent anniversary overall. But an anniversary nonetheless.
