This morning started out like any other day. Nothing special. Came downstairs around 7. Made a cup of tea and stood at the back door. Saw two deer walk thru the backyard and buck at each other a little. It started to snow. My tea was warmed. Another deer joined in. It snowed harder. It was Christmastime.
It happens at a different time every year and for different reasons but something clicks and it's Christmas time. The lighting of the tree in the city, a certain holiday song, maybe the smell of Douglas fir. But whatever it is, once it hits there's no stopping me. So today, which was set up to be a lazy day at home, working or cleaning up from Thanksgiving turned into our first day of Christmas celebration.
So step #1: Get a tree.
We hopped in Sexy Bird and popped in my new Christmas mix, now at 3,122 songs strong, sporting 71 versions of Jingle Bells and no less than 28 James Brown holiday jams. First up was A New Baby For Christmas, which I thought would be cute, because we have a new baby at Christmas, but it ended up being George Jones' plea for a new girlfriend because the one he has is a tramp. I didn't know Santa dealt in human trafficking.
We got out to Regina Farms, even tho last year seemed like slim pickins, but this year we headed straight for the back and found a pretty good lookin' fellow.
Laura helped carry the tree back to get bound while she carried Yuula in her moby. Superwoman.
We took longer to pick out ribbon than it did to pick a tree.
Yuula woke up for the checkout.
We were feeling the holiday spirit so much so that we even bought up some baked goods from local boyscout troop 87. A funnel cake, 2 brownies & a plate of cinnamon rolls.
After that I had no choice but to head out to the storage unit an retrieve our Christmas totes. I forgot how many we had. Our Christmas crap grows exponentially.
The tree is up, but that's about it right now.
