Routinely Drawn To Underdogs

Green Bay Packers Vs. Chicago Bears - 3pm ET
021984>bear

Good rivalry going on here. They already played twice this season and as tho it were scripted they each won one. So this is the tie breaker, and wouldn't you know it the winner goes on to the Super Bowl. Should be good, what with Aaron Rogers hi precision and cool & calculated run offense picking up first downs galore and Jay Cutler spraying the field as if he were using a pumpkin catapult just praying one of his receivers are in the area to snatch it. And c'mon, Devin Hester has got to run one back, escpecially if this is the Bears last game this season. But I got them by 4 over Green Bay. I like it, it's a good story. Bad team at the start turns it around. But the Packers have been pretty persistent. Almost annoyingly. I think the city wins it for them in Chicago.

New York Jets Vs. Pittsburgh Steelers - 6:30 pm ET
West_side_story_jets2193163

I don't have to tell you that the natural selection here is the Steelers. But I would really like to see a different team, one that hasn't won twice in the past 5 years, be successful. Plus I hate Rapelischeater™. That's what Laura & I call him. We made it up. I think ESPN should adopt it. I could collect royalties or maybe have an occasional guest spot on Around The Horn with Tony Reali. Either way, I'm going out o a limb and taking the Jets by 3. If I had to put actual money down on this, I may not be so brave.

Lemonade de la Braids

So when Travis had his humdinger blog I/he started "girl friday's song of the week". I enjoyed it then and really enjoyed going back 4 years later now and looking at what I was listening to and why I thought it was good. BUT I failed at that because I was not good at the schedule of a weekly event such as that. SO. This is just the song of the...... I may do one daily, weekly, monthly, maybe even 2 a day. Who knows really. All I know is that I don't want to make any promises that I may not be able to keep.

I am back to work now. Which means I spend about 10 hours a week in commute. The way I see it...that is a lot of music. Friday- Travis gave me a mix for my ride in like he does every now and then...and I truly enjoyed it. This song stuck out for me. It made me wish it was summer time and the windows were down. But you know its a good song when you can't turn your radio up loud enough and you turn red in the face from singing it(off key of course). That's right I'm a lunatic when I'm alone. But that song for me made my day today. I think I listened to it 6 or 7 times- the drum beat did it for me. Nice and simple.

enjoy.

Well I'm Back!

Good news everybody! I'm back to the blog world...I don't know if 'back' is the right word considering the fact I think I have only made one post...so maybe the title should read I'm here :)
But that is good news for our little family. It makes Daddy happy and hopefully we will look back at MY words now and enjoy them as much as we enjoy his. He says we need a feminine side to this blog...so you will be hearing about fun mom stuff. Because now I am a Mom.
Hopefully this time I am here to stay. I may not be posting things 6 times a day like the pro, but I will try to let you know what is going on in my life.

Girl's Got Places To Go

I noticed something funny today in that Yuula was never where I left her. She was close but just off a little bit. I set up a camera to run some surveillance footage, very like trying to catch a rare bird in the wildernees or shots of bigfoot. Look at what I caught and I promise, I did come near her. This is all on her own.

Sneaky girl can scoot. It wore her out because she fell asleep right there.

You Lucky So And So

I woke up hearing this song. It's not an early morning type song, but I guess it was catchy enough to embed itself into my dreams. I do love me some Deerhoof tho. Something about the quirky Japanese frontwoman who whips down on a bass that's twice the size of her like Satomi Matsuzaki. We saw them in Athens years back and it was one of the best shows we've been to, mainly because it highlighted Laura beating up a drunken skinhead.

I guess the dudes didn't wanna be in the video.

Warming Up To It

It's tough to photograph falling snow

I'm having a hard time getting this house warm this morning. The pellet stove is a touchy fellow. His knobs must be in the exact position according to the current temperature, the time of day and the effects of Saturn in the twelve houses as counted from the Moon-sign during its transit. So maybe I miscalculate every now and then.

P1250222

Laura is off to work and I'm home with the child, who on her own, has just decided to switch up her sleeping/feeding schedule. That's fine. I was getting bored with the old one. She's asleep now, so I can have a little peace, because when she's awake, she's loud. She testing out some new timbres and decibels and decided she likes the rash and loud versions the best. Expecially when that dadblasted moose is hanging over her. Then she's got a lot to get off her chest.

P1250197

She's just lost her mind in general.

P1250214

Her loudest yelps tho, come at the telephone. She just loves to hear her mothers voice over the speaker. She gives her a piece of her mind and tells her that if she doesn'y get home to feed her soon that Dad is going to let her drink from the Hennessy bottle.

P1250237

I have her set up in her little playspot this morning, wrapped in my bathrobe and gave her Sophie. Being quiet this morning. She's usually not awake this early. We're watching Law & Order. It's a good one. Jack McCoy is sticking it to 'em.

The girl is five months today. We did not throw a party, unless you consider stir fry and watching the Office a party. Some do.

The Kid's Alright

I had a few anxious reactions to the photos of me giving Yuula a good ol' toss around the house last night. While I hear your concerns I'll let you know that...

I'm just getting started

54 Minutes To Houston

I was cleaning out my emails today and came across one from back in 2009 from old friend Tom Raith. It had a promise of coming east to visit in 2010 and a phone number, so even tho I haven't actually spoken with him since early 2008 I called, to tell him off. After the initial shock wore off we talked for almost an hour, catching up and talking about babies and chemistry classes and leaving professions and buying farms in West Texas. It was quite pleasant. We decided enough was enough and we are going to keep in touch with a potential get-together on the horizon. For now, we're gonna settle on sending random photos via text message on a semi-regular basis. Let's say once or twice a week. We started today.

You win tonight old friend, but don't get cocky. Tomorrow is a new day and I got an hour on you.

Are You Havin' A Laugh?

These are my work jokes.

Engineer-Jokes

A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts: "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised my friend I would meet him half an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man below says: "Yes. You are in a hot air balloon, hovering approximately 30 feet above this field. You are between 40 and 42 degrees N. latitude, and between 58 and 60 degrees W. longitude."

"You must be an engineer," says the balloonist.

"I am," replies the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost. In fact, now that you've taken up my time, I'm going to be even later meeting my friend!"

The man below says, "You must be a manager."

"I am," replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," says the man, "you don't know where you are, or where you are going. You have made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are in the exact same position you were in before we met, but now it is somehow my fault."

Rainy Day/Naked Night

P1250078

I heard a rumor once, that babies like being naked.

P1250096

Yuula is no exception. After her bath she much preferred to be in the buff without the constriction of those snug little huggies that sometimes turn her feet blue. I think it's time to go up a size.

P1250083

That's the best thing about nudity, is no matter how unfortunate the size is, it's one fits all.

P1250091

Gimme A 'K'!

Our good old friend Katie came over on Sunday to visit Yuula, eat french toast and watch the Bears pummel the Seahawks. Katie was one of the first people to meet Yuula after she came home from the hospital when she was about one week old so they know each other. No introductions were necessary.

P1250052

Reaching back to her not so distant past, Katie took it upon herself to teach Yuula some cheerleading moves.

P1250058

P1250057

Good to see her. She'll be back in the early summer, or maybe, if Laura and I can drag Yuula out to the midwest we'll see her in her native surroundings. Big things to come.

Jack Smells Like Yellow

1295276308083

Yeah I don't know what that means either, but it's part of the customary madness of visiting the Hartsuikers and their two boys Jack & Ryan, and with another boy on the way, I pray for them. But that's why we went over yesterday, to help Rich & Michelle move their bedroom downstairs so the boys could share their old bedroom and new baby boy can have the boys old room. Manual labor: sign me up.

1295284488496

Yuula was a hit there, adding another boyfriend to the mix. Ryan's courting skills aren't yet honed, so he does a lot of poking her in the face, adorably mispronouncing her name and getting easily distracted to play with his helicopter. Actually that seems to be the dead on.

1295276470781
1295281241294

The moving portion of the day went relatively quick, Laura and I being experts on how to move oversized furniture thru awkwardly shaped pathways. The only real roadblock came when mysteriously the boxspring did not fit heightwise down the staircase. After agreeing with Rich on the power of a good shove, followed by a painting touch-up, a heave and a ho and no one was the wiser. The boys helped by carrying clocks and cords downstairs so I rewarded them with a chicken dance song as we waited for pizza.

1295287151032

Always good times with that bunch. We are thinking about making plans to go camping. I can teach the boys how to dance around the fire and attract bears. Can't wait.

The Bear Can Wait

1295271003136
If only we were deer

Well, we should be on the road right now, but the road had other plans. Waking up to the weather channel can be pleasant due to its soothing saxophone jams and ebbing synths, but not when you've made plans to drive south to visit family and the screen is red with ICY signs over most of the day. Add the baby and the new car and all of the sudden build-a-bear can wait.

So we're home today. I'm gonna catch up on some work after yesterdays runaround. Laura will probably make a soup and cuddle on the couch. When her and Yuula get out of bed that is. As it should be.

Miles From Miles

Yuula has an admirer from afar.

That tat is legit.

The Trunks Are Planners

The Trunks turn to host an evening of unrequited deliciousity. Lasagna was the main course. Dunja followed the recipe to great acclaim. Yuula was well behaved but I still make Isobella cry. It was our third go-around so the subject matter was a bit more risqué, the conversational equivalent of putting out on the third date. Topic whores. We learned that there are talks of the male equivalent of the Le Leche League in the works. Jordan and I agreed to attend with every intention to bring it down from the inside. We discussed how we would hope to approach the birds and bees with our kids. I expressed my more immediate concern with her incontinence. We touched on dolphin torture, bee stings and the potent power of a dog ear skunked. We promised ourselves we'd leave before 1am this time. We got out at 12:30.

Better Than Campbell's

Laura's been brewing up a storm in the kitchen lately. Every time I go in there she's got something stewing on the stovetop. She's gone soup crazy. She's become the soup Nazi. But I can't complain, because it' good soup. I been eating it everyday. Lunch, dinner... that's it. Breakfast would be nasty.

She's made three...

The Unimpressed Sledder

Haha. She can't put her arms down! This was yesterday. We suited her up and dragged her outside. She didn't know what to make of all the snow. Mostly she showed indifference. We pulled out the baby sled, strapped her in and went for a jog thru the yard. She displayed a continuation of apathy. So we set the woods on fire and swung her by her ankle from a remote control helicopter. Nothing.

We didn't get around to any kind of snowman or snowfort or snow-life-size-replica-of-Lou Ferigno, but it was a decent exposure to the frigid tundra. Today we'll stay inside.
