Busy Baking Girls

Today Yuula and her mother made a vat of turkey soup, six loaves of zucchini/blueberry bread and a batch of chocolate crinkle cookies. All in a days' work.

Making herself comfortable in the bakery.

The elusive Starberry.

The Family Resolute

Yuula has a resolution. To wear ponytails.

DSC_0008

Laura's resolution is basically the family eating healthier and more sit down dinners around the table. I can get down with that. She's off to a good start since she's dubbed today the official start of the homemade soup season.

mmmmmmmmmmmnmm

I also have a few resolutions.
  1. Eat a lobster
  2. Use the word nigh a lot
  3. Start referring to my office as the observatory
  4. Make a charitable donation
  5. Work on my penmanship

I've already done one of these. You'll never guess which.

Here Is Silence, Soup & Sleep

C360_2011-11-1712-54-12

It's quiet here. Slow day at work. Warm living room and cozy surroundings. The rest of the world seems to be on fire. News is tense. Protests, pilots & Penn State. Ay. But here, I got a baby taking a sweet little floor nap and I am about to indulge in my first chowder of the season. It's the best I can do.

Meet Our Carrot-catures

C360_2011-10-1509-18-40

Laura's about to start the yearly soup craze, and since we grew some of our own ingredients the harvest was on this morning. We finally got some carrots. Kinda...

All In Her Days Off

Pretty awesome taco huh? Well, as always, Laura's day off went way too fast. She got on a spring cleaning kick at 5am even tho the trees still look like frosted mini wheats. She bought a sewing machine. We better get some new drapes. I got a box of pants that need mending that I've been holding onto for years. Maybe I'll get that out. I listened to new albums by the Strokes, Timber Timber and Explosions in the Sky. The Mets won 16-3 over the Cardinals. Laura made meals for the next two weeks. Sausage vegetable soup, beef barley and something we call tomoylikash. Yuula ate some oatmeal with gusto. Then we had taco dinner. I think you're caught up.

Frozen Brick Of Bean

The soup du jour.

P1250836

I tried to defrost it by dropping the bag into hot water but the bag had a hole in it so it was getting watered down. Looks gross, like a nasty snickers, but it tasted delicious still. Sad it's gone.

Better Than Campbell's

Laura's been brewing up a storm in the kitchen lately. Every time I go in there she's got something stewing on the stovetop. She's gone soup crazy. She's become the soup Nazi. But I can't complain, because it' good soup. I been eating it everyday. Lunch, dinner... that's it. Breakfast would be nasty.

She's made three...

Ham & 16 Bean

She says she's got plans for a french onion and maybe a beef barley. I want a nice winter root. Mmmmm rutabaga.

Soup For Breakfast?

P1240751

Snow means a warm breakfast, my favorite. Laura woke up the yesterday, grabbed a pot and threw it on the stove. I got excited. What did she have in store? Banana oatmeal? Perhaps a breakfast soufflé? When she began to chop pieces off a giant ham and pour a tub of soaked beans in the pot I lost my appetite. She was excited to make her soup. It's her second soup this week.

P1240762

It is a delicious soup. I taste tested it when I came in from plowing the driveway. Tough work but I like the cold. And we did get our warm breakfast. Cream of wheat sprinkled with fresh berries. The red and purple kind.

Yuula seemed interested but when the opportunity presented itself, she couldn't follow thru. We're gonna have to work on that. Maybe she can learn from the cats.

Killin' The Vibe

Gonna be conceited today

P1240682

I am on autopilot this morning. It's really quite quite impressive. It's something to behold as far as some things to behold at 5am go.

The only thing out of the norm was a large bowl of assorted beans soaking on the kitchen counter. I didn't do that. Must've been Laura. I think she's gonna make some soup today. With ham. Schools are closed. Should give her plenty of time.

P1240681

Laura bought me a tuna can drainer. I'd like to think that 10 or so years ago I wouldn't have been as excited as I was about it last night. My life has reached that point and it's about time.

Is it Christmastime again already?
