Concert Woes

We haven't been to a show in ages. It'll be 2 years on December 12th. Mostly because we're busy, teaching highschool doesn't leave much opportunity to get out to a venue. Plus we make it hard on ourselves. It's a balancing act ya see, getting a band worth seeing that'd put on a great show with plenty of good songs and being able to see them in an atmosphere hipster-free and of a smaller less-accommodating square footage. It's a balancing act.

We've been invited to a few shows up in Boston by Eric, just could never get up there. He's seen Dirty Projectors like 4 times this year, and rightfully so. Luckily we got a chance to see them at The Eyedrum in Atlanta, gosh maybe 3 years ago now. Dunno. We didn't take photos. It will live in our memories at one of the craziest and most profound live musical experiences I think either one of us will ever be part of. I think we paid $8. Ain't paying that to see those guys now. They're playing the Bowery on Wednesday: $89.

And even when we do find a band we think will fit our pretentious requirements, we usually are struck by pure bad timing, being busy or missing them coming to town. Just last night we were listening to this new remarkable album by Surfer Blood. We thought..
"Man this is great! We should go see these guys."

"Let's check out their tour schedule."

"Oh! Good they're coming to Philly!"

"When?"

"Tonight."

"Oh."

I've been really digging this new album by Chris Garneau and he's playing the First Unitarian on December 11th, so maybe we won't go two years without seeing show. We'll see what happens. It's all very exciting.
