Camping fools. We used to come here a lot when I was a kid. I didn't recall, until we pulled up.

Surprise Dani!

Estlers took over the pool

I took over the hot tub

This was the beginning of what became a no holds barred, all bets off, no rules observed round of mini golf

Grandparents are weird

Then s'mores

Yuula didn't know how to make it work

So we stuck marshmallows all over her face instead

The last morning was quiet

We took the waterbaby down to the pool

Aesop LOVES watermelon

The Tensilest Of Tents

Do I want this?

Yes!

Am I aware that this is most likely 10x as difficult to set up as the traditional tent I currently struggle with?

Yes!

Do I care?

Nope!

Why?

Bears.

Humor Me Before I Have To Go

C360_2012-09-12-10-55-50

We had to move to a pet friendly site on Wednesday morning after pancakes. We picked up the tent in its upright and walked down the street. No photos obviously because it's a two person job and Yuula is still wonky on camera, but I bet it was a site. Really liked this site 33 tho. We'll have to remember it for next time.

There will be a next time.

You Cook Some, You Crash Some

The second morning started off much better, except that the dew was heavy and we were starting to feel it in the tent. Up and at 'em!

Cooking pancakes in an outdoor environment has been the bane of my existence for sometime now, so it wasn't a decision made lightly when I fired up that griddle and shook that just-add-water batter to smithereens.

They weren't gourmet, but they were frigin pancakes.

Dinner, Dancing And Deerjà Vu

Our first full day was coming to an end and the temperature was dropping pretty darn fast. A pressure was on to get a fire started before the sun went down and prep for dinner: quesadillas part II.

Yuula thought it a good idea to get some more practice in with her net before dinner

Just because we're in the middle of the woods on an island doesn't mean we don't dance

We dance until we need to be carried

The camp site is lovely by candlelight

Here Birdy Birdy

the vacation went by and the net stayed empty

Horse Are Far But Deer Are Close

DSC_0340

After a little grocery shopping and returning from Ocean City we thought we'd take a drive down the island to try and find some horseys. Unfortunately the only horses we could find were out in the middle of the marsh and this is as close as we could get...

But when we got back to our campsite...

The Morning The Water Was Warm

1347359462775

The first morning we woke up in Assateague was the roughest. It was a late night and for some reason we still woke up at 6am. I set out to make some pancakes only to realize I had no flipping implement, so cereal it was. I did make myself a hot apple pie tho...

The morning was calm, as mostly we set up our site and unloaded the rest of the car.

We decided since it was still so early and the water was probably cold to hop back into the tent for an early morning nap. It didn't really work.

DSC_0119

We decided just to take a walk out onto the beach to check out the white sands and test the waters.

We weren't in our swimsuits but it didn't really stop us from hopping into the ocean after we felt how warm the water actually was.
