The Morning The Water Was Warm

1347359462775

The first morning we woke up in Assateague was the roughest. It was a late night and for some reason we still woke up at 6am. I set out to make some pancakes only to realize I had no flipping implement, so cereal it was. I did make myself a hot apple pie tho...

The morning was calm, as mostly we set up our site and unloaded the rest of the car.

We decided since it was still so early and the water was probably cold to hop back into the tent for an early morning nap. It didn't really work.

We decided just to take a walk out onto the beach to check out the white sands and test the waters.

We weren't in our swimsuits but it didn't really stop us from hopping into the ocean after we felt how warm the water actually was.

Legged Migration

4252355722_9450dc6ecc

Bird migration is the regular seasonal journey undertaken by many species of birds. Bird movements include those made in response to changes in food availability, habitat or weather. These however are usually irregular or in only one direction and are termed variously as nomadism, invasions, dispersal or irruptions. Migration is marked by its annual seasonality. In contrast, birds that are non-migratory are said to be resident or sedentary. Approximately 1800 of world's 10,000 bird species are long-distance migrants.

You know who else migrates south?

Really Jeans?

IMAG0577IMAG0578

I ripped my jeans today. Second pair at this job. Gotta buy a third tonight. Three pairs in less than as many weeks. The first got caught on an ASO824PS, which is nerd speak for a 24 foot piece of 1/8x1.25 aluminum. Kinda hurt. Today I nicked the side of an evaporator at some tragic plater out in Nanticoke. A pinhole at first, a gash moments later. I'm rough on dungaree.

In other bad news...

I think the baby birds outside our backdoor are dead. We had bad feelings about it when we saw a bird building a nest there. Not the cats could reach the nest, but the bird would have to fly back and forth to feed them and our cats ain't stupid. We've actually been pretty impressed with their hunting skills as of late. But I haven't seen the parents at all in the past few days, I sure don't hear any cheaping.

Fawsja's babies on the other hand are doing just fine, and now in their 4th little hiding spot, they've discovered their legs and it's not abnormal for us to find a random kitten in the middle of the living room. Craigslist, here we come!

Quite Cold

I know where these guys are going.

It's freezing today! I'm wearing pants and a hoodie. But I'm not complaining. What I've been waiting for since May.

Baby Bird Rescue

I found a little baby bird sitting on the front porch this morning whenI went to feed the cats, sitting right there next to their food bowl. Not the best place for a baby bird. I tried to take it out in the yard but that caught the attention of the cats and they followed me. They just sat around the bird in a circle waiting for him to try and fly so they could catch him. Don't think they wanna eat him. Just wanna play. But that'll probably kill him so ... I brought him inside.

After all the excitement died down and it was nap time I put him back outside. Hope he makes it.
