Pizza, In Like 3 Minutes!

This year I am tearing apart another rock patio, because half of it sunk over the winter. If the whole thing sunk I'd probably leave it, but there's steps where I didn't necessarily put steps, so at this point it's probably just best i tear it apart and start over fresh. It was the first one I did going back 4-5 years now, and it was definitely a poor-at-best attempt at rock patio-ing.

But then main focus of the new patio, which will change shape and size and purpose, is to incorporate this sweet cob oven into the mix. This puppy bakes up pizzas in like 3 minutes! And I want one.

I found this website that lays it all out for you, and it's fairly complicated, but I don't intend on doing it this summer. Just keeping it in mind while re-working the area. And it looks fairly cheap too, which is my kind of project. As long as when it's all said and done I can cook that pizza in like 3 minutes!

Maybe there's some cobbing classes in the area that I can take. Or maybe I meet a cobber? Is that a thing? Who knows, if I get good at this I may just cob myself a brand new house, with it's own guitar room. Where I can cook a pizza in like 3 minutes!

So Far Celebrating With Hot Rocks

We have not been all that 4th-y yet today. We laid in bed til 9 laughing at Yuula and then went downstairs and ate some eggs and laughed at Yuula some more. Then we spent what was left of the morning working a little bit in the yard. The summer is quickly slipping thru our fingers and the list of things to get done is getting all the more burdensome. I tackled m main nemesis, this new front patio.

I decided to tear it apart and start over this morning. Good idea with bad timing. The sun beats down on these suckers, and me as well, causing them to reach stifling temperatures themselves. So I'm getting hit by the sun and burning rock all at the same time. It was a joy. I've said it before but I'm saying it again, I don't want to ever lay a patio again. But I will.

It looks ok. Still more to do.

Laura threw down a patriotic tablecloth for lunch so... that's something.

We've bathed everyone and regained our strengths so we're going to head out and try and celebrate this fine country and its hot rocks.

Don't Stop The Rockin'

After spending last summer face down in the dirt with every finger pinched by heavy rocks I swore to myself that I was done with all of the patio layin, yet here we are.

What started out yesterday as a day to clean out gardens and rework some garden framing quickly turned into complete overhauls of spaces and wide-eyed dreaming. But you can't hold it against us, okay.

And while I did all that Laura spent the day cleaning out all the gardens that apparently destroy themselves during the winter and now things are getting back on track.

Eating The Fruits Of Our Labor

Today was a big day. Laura picked some rhubarb from the garden that we dipped into sugar and ate for breakfast. Delicious. Then for dinner we had a salad made of greens from our very own garden. It was more delectable than I expected. Can't wait to get my hands on those carrots. Mmmmm, winter root soup.

Today was busy and exhausting. Laura had to transplant a few things, carrots and tomatoes. It never ends, apparently. Yuula helped.

I did more work on the new rock patio. Almost finished laying the rock, SO CLOSE. I concentrated on the retaining wall and actually completing a part of this job gave me some satisfaction. Tomorrow may be the day.

Laura went to the Pocono Bazaar to meet some girls and then dragged them back to the house and made them cook us dinner. Well done and sneaky.

Finally, to end a long and exhausting day, we planted some rose of Sharon along the outside of the rock wall. When these boys grow in it should be nice.

Laura just took the girl to bed. She did not take a nap today. Too much excitement. I took a little nap after dinner and now I'm ready for some more. Early day tomorrow. The clock is ticking.

I'll Take Another Me

Good. Can the other me come down and help me lay this rock patio?
