Big Foods

Must've been a meat sale today

These rhubarb are serious this year. Looks like someone's gonna have plenty o' pie this summer.

Yuula ate more dinner than I did

This is HUGE! I will be spreading this on toast, bagels, chips and someday I'll build up the courage to spread it on a Biscoff cookie. The combination will either rip a hole in the time/taste continuum or they will cancel each other out and I will lose all ability to use my tastebuds. Seems worth the risk.

Eating The Fruits Of Our Labor

Today was a big day. Laura picked some rhubarb from the garden that we dipped into sugar and ate for breakfast. Delicious. Then for dinner we had a salad made of greens from our very own garden. It was more delectable than I expected. Can't wait to get my hands on those carrots. Mmmmm, winter root soup.

Today was busy and exhausting. Laura had to transplant a few things, carrots and tomatoes. It never ends, apparently. Yuula helped.

I did more work on the new rock patio. Almost finished laying the rock, SO CLOSE. I concentrated on the retaining wall and actually completing a part of this job gave me some satisfaction. Tomorrow may be the day.

Laura went to the Pocono Bazaar to meet some girls and then dragged them back to the house and made them cook us dinner. Well done and sneaky.

Finally, to end a long and exhausting day, we planted some rose of Sharon along the outside of the rock wall. When these boys grow in it should be nice.

Laura just took the girl to bed. She did not take a nap today. Too much excitement. I took a little nap after dinner and now I'm ready for some more. Early day tomorrow. The clock is ticking.

Rhubarbian Consequence

P1280061

On the Krupp farm it's "kill or be killed". It's also "ask and ye shall receive", so when Laura asked for some rhubarb to take home we were not disappointed. Good thing we have a van now.

Rhubarb is surprisingly easy to harvest.

Madison gave moral support.

This is the mandatory rhubarb pickin' hat and knife set.

Laura already made one pie, and it was her best yet.

We got plenty more. Who's coming for dinner?

Swiss Chard A Rhubarb?

1290347581164

Today is probably the most productive day either of us have had all year. Up before the sun, to beat the holiday traffic, and get the best cream corn, we got to the grocery around 6:30am. We took our time, strolling down each aisle, scanning all the shelves, and leaving no list item unturned. It was a long list. Double columned, both sides of the page. The only thing we didn't find is rhubarb. Guess we're not having that pie this weekend. We even checked another store, but all I found was swiss chard. Close, but opposite.

We came home and prompted by the lack of sufficient pantry space, tore the kitchen apart and redid all the cabinets. So much so that Laura uttered the words "I love my kitchen!". It's usually not the story. She refers to it as the dungeon. Cleaned up the yard. Haven't picked up since Laura's baby shower in June. That's shameful. I finally cleaned up the sawdust city I had made while building these shelves, and did the shed switcheroo, things that don't need to be in the house out, portable heaters in. It's an annual ritual.

Oddjobs abound, but tonight we even finally ordered our stroller. We have a stroller, but it's not terrain friendly. We went with a three wheeler, big wheels since all our roads are rock at best. It's got a hand brake for those downhill tumbles and an iPod dock, called the iBaby, so we can jam out on our nature hikes. It'll be here sometime between the 24th and the 1st. Then daily walks will ensue. Snow be damned. If the snow ever decides to show itself. Coward snow. This has taken an ugly turn. It's time for bed. Another early day tomorrow.

Never Rub Another Man's Rhubarb

Always plant another woman's
