Things We Made This Weekend

Modeled off a Williams-Sonoma model selling for about $60, mine was made out of scrap materials and what I'm hoping is a lot more love than skill. Used for collecting garden vegetables and easy clean-off.

When a single zucchini makes 6 loaves of this stuff, we better like it. Oh and where's the 6th loaf you ask? Ate it. And as of the time of this post, there are only 4 left.

Consider Community Support Started

First CSA pickup today. Glad we made it home in time to unpack and head back out for a bushel and a peck. There's that kohlrabi again! Slaw anyone?

Doing Our Best Not To Spoil

We love our new CSA, but we've unintentionally thrown out a good deal of the share since we started, be it because we don't know what to do with it or because we can't possibly eat more beet greens, our compost heap has been stocked. So tonight we decided to pull it all out, do a little online research and attempt to revitalize our ever growing backstock of garden goodness.

And then we had to punish Yuula.

In A Banana Chip & Pasta Coma

Nothing doing. Grocery binge this morning. Our cupboards were bare. Laura's on her way home. We're both mysteriously exhausted. The small bouts of yardwork are doing us in. We are out of that shape. She wants to do Insanity. She is insanity. Tomorrow is gonna be busy. Up at 6, recycling, quarry, home, treefarm, home, and trying to shape it all in between. We're hoping by the end of the month you won't even recognize our front yard. Don't worry. We'll give you the new directions. For now, I'll watch the Mets lose to Houston (again) and drink a warm glass of water.

I Think We Built A Deck And Stuff

I can;t see straight. Could be tired. Could be four margaritas. Today has been long. Built deck, unexpected. Found vegetables growing in the garden, unexpected. Had quesadillas, expected. See photos for details. I'm going to bed.

Beginning The Start

Final stages of the garden build today. Chicken wire started going up and all but 20 feet are done. We ran out. We stopped by a few nurseries today to find who has the best plants for sale. I think we decided with Ross & Ross. It's close, and they were quite friendly. Plus the older woman who helped us was wearing a Yeah Yeah Yeahs tank top. Hip. Laura is going to pick up the plants on Saturday morning and the dirt is scheduled to be delivered on Monday. It's really happening now. If we get one peapod I will be pleased.

The Ghost Of Jack LaLane

That's an actual photo from our kitchen counter this morning. I don't know what came over me, but we've a bunch of kale left over from a soup Laura made just stirring in the refrigerator fresher, and I been wondering what to do with it. Upon daily browsing of the interwebs I came across a kale smoothie recipe. I barely glanced at the ingredients but thought, "I got some fruits and vegetables just laying around. How bad could it be?".



Now before you say "Uh Oh" let me say that it wasn't bad at all. Pretty delicious actually and while I don't think is the beginning of an alternate lifestyle for us full of supplements and egg whites, I am gonna keep this in mind. We had banana, carrots, grapefruit, yogurt, kale, avocado, coconut and a little orange juice. Then we argued over whether to use the blender or the food processor to smoothify them all. Maybe we just need a juicer. I think I will add eggs next time.



Now I just need to figure out how to utilize the rest of this coconut. I don't even know how a coconut got in the house. I smashed it on a rock this morning like a monkey. Highlight.
