Katie has a habit to appear abruptly and lurk about for uncertain periods of time, only to disappear into the shadows again, leaving us clueless as to when we'll ever see her again, if at all.

Discovering The Disneys

We went out last night in search of Yuula's birthday gift, having no plan or idea or even a genre to focus on. Stuffed animals, dolls, games, toys, should we just buy her used car and be done with it? The hunt was on.

We hit the mall, begrudgingly, and one of the things she got excited about was the Disney Store. I don't think she's ever been, but she has been replacing some of her previously scheduled Caillou time with that hotdog dance show. So I think she may be moving on. Although she does still point to the television and call it "Caillou Mickey Mouse".

We wandered over to Toys 'R' Us. She picks up souvenirs everywhere she goes. She had the whole store thinking it was raining outside. I hear umbrella sales there went thru the roof. But she knows her way around that place somehow. She was even mistaken as an employee a couple times.

We did come across some good gift ideas, and made out with a few classic nuggets. We were stealthy tho. She don't know nothing, and hopefully she digs them. Time will tell. But we couldn't make it out without that umbrella, rain or no.

Phantom Shopping At The Ghost Mall

We realized just recently that we do not have the appropriate attire required for the Krupp seasonal photo session, so a late night jaunt to the market side of town was inevitable. We hit the Target and were able to use a lost gift card, only to find it afterward. Yuula ran amok thru TJ Maxx, where I found the yearly cardigan. Then to the Stroud mall where I swear we were the only customers on the grounds. Kind of creepy. But Yuula got a balloon from Sbarro, a coloring book from Santa and her fair share of baby flings. Kind of nice

The Krupps have been in town since Friday night. It has been a bit of a blur. Here are highlights...

C'mon, Irene Too Loo Rye Ay

The power out can be a lovely thing. Despite the charred bacon on the grill and all the down trees and the game of hide & seek in the mall and no bananas at the Thai place, it was a pretty terrific day. Dani & Vic's flight was cancelled so they got to join us on this apparently apocalyptic day. Street lights out. Outlets closed. Ice cream melted. I bought a jacket. For the wedding. That's right I'm taking it up a notch. Corduroy. An evening lit by candlelight and impromptu techno music. Good times. Come again.

Cleveland Is A Wash

Well, since we are running ahead of schedule after the Christmas Story house we thought we'd do a mini tour of Cleveland. So far we've gotten lost in a parking garage, gotten lost in a hotel, walked an empty albeit lovely European style mall and gotten stuck in a typhoon. So we are leaving Cleveland. Wet.

Mall Baby Benefits

Cold is back again today. I promised Laura we'd do a post-Valentine thing, go out for a walk or the like but where do you go when it's 15 degrees outside? Why the Lehigh Valley shopping mall of course. The mall can be such a strange phenomenon when you have no inclination towards buying anything. We did get a heart-shaped box filled with mystery chocolates that we're slowly but surely making our way thru. Always gotta have matching pieces. One thing we have noticed is that having a baby seems to give you more free reign in testing out mattresses and couches for extended periods of time. I want me a mall sugar cookie before we go.

Yuula & The John Claus

We tried to get her to smile. This is the best we could hope for. His name was John. Laura liked him. I think he was a 7.895. He could've been jollier. And the beard was a tad musty.

She asked him for a smaller flower.

And so starts a lifetime obsession with a robust iconic figure, rendering ecstatic joy and excitement for most of her childhood, cause for confusion come her years of forward thinking, only followed by a welcome return to love and affection.

Merry Christmas Yuula.
