Big Wheel Limbo Champion

Party at the Big Wheel. The only way to do it.

This is the point of the party where Yuula won the limbo contest, a noble honor among all 5-year birthday parties

Isabella was not happy about that

Serenity Reigns At The Skating Rink

from August 2nd

creepiest skating rink ever

Annual Anti-Corps Funnel Cake Estler-Fallon Freakout

August started off so calm and quiet...

but it quickly became the opposite.

By noon we had pink mayhem in the yard...

and boys in dresses...

crying kitty kidnapping struggles...

and hammock rides on the edge of disaster.

Slide and Slide and Drink

Isla likes being beaned with the ball

These two are buddies.

The kids played nice while the adults broke into an abandoned home.

When it got too hot we took it to the rink.

Took it down a notch back at the house and cooked as much meat as we could fit on the grill.

Laura is gross.

Next years annual event is already scheduled.

A-Rinky Boom Boom Down

Isabella's 4th birthday bash at Big Wheel! What a time warp, man. I was transported back a few times to the Jackson rink and even found myself recounting tales from those days, all the parties and fights and great 80's music. I learned all the lyrics to Snow's Informer in skates. That's quite a feat.

And I think skates were worn about 27% of the time

Big Wheel Burnout

Counting down the days of freedom, Laura brought the kids to Big Wheel today, maybe for the last time in a while, but mainly because I think they have Big Wheel burnout.

Then they went and checked out the new library on 209. Heard it was pretty nice and sparkly clean, but I think that's because it opened, like, today I think.

Yuula checked out her first book and movie, Beauty and The Beast. She watched it twice today.

Her Neon Lights Will Shine

Hey-O! Yuula tried skating on for size, and she did pretty damn well. There were trips and tumbles and all, but she stayed upright for more than a few laps and was quite proud of herself.

I haven;t tied on roller skates since the early 90's and I remember being terrible. Maybe she'll teach me a few of her techniques.

This will probably the only time she gets to wear this awesome Snoopy tee. It wasn't such a belly shirt when we left the house this morning.

Maybe 3rd or 4th best, after pony and treefort.

We're Raising A Non-Conformist

we call that "arse-first"

Warming Up To The Rink

Laura took the child to the rink this morning. I stayed home to buckle down. Met up with bestie Isa and dragged her around and around, probably knocking over many small children along the way. I heard she did well, played with others, shared her ball, rollerstepped about the place and ran in horror from Elmo. But still no chicken dance. I say good grief.

This is twice I've missed the rollerskating. Don't really care to go for three.

Not Quite Xanadu

C360_2012-03-07-12-03-11

Talk of taking the girls rollerskating sounded promising. I couldn't help but envision clear plastic visors and thin braided headbands. I think the last time I was in a rink for rolling was the 80's. The late 80's, but still. And while the attempted decor did not disappoint, the overall experience was less than worthy of Olivia Newton-Johns' roller-themed fantasy world. I got to watch that movie as an adult. I'm not even sure what it was about.

The girls had a decent time tho, mainly claiming the far end of the rink, the empty end, their own, and while being held Yuula mainly wanted to kick around a bouncy ball and trade of turns pushing and riding in the pink scooter with Isabella.

And I knocked over some little girl.
