Turkey Surrogate
This is a thing...
It's called a cockentrice.
Here's the recipe:
...take a capon, scald it, drain it clean, then cut it in half at the waist; take a pig, scald it, drain it as the capon, and also cut it in half at the at the waist; take needle and thread and sew the front part of the capon to the back part of the pig; and the front part of the pig to the back part of the capon, and then stuff it as you would stuff a pig; put it on a spit, and roast it: and when it is done, gild it on the outside with egg yolks, ginger, saffron, and parsley juice; and then serve it forth for a royal meat.
Oh and for the thrift-hearted out there, don't worry. We won't let any go to waste.
I call it the gobblehog.

Ball Of Power And The Wishbone
I'm not ashamed to say that we joined in on the national hype and played us some powerball last night. We were fully aware that we were more likely to be hit by lighting while being stung by a bee and riding a dinosaur up Mount Kilimanjaro, but still, it's fun, somebody's gonna win something, and we need a legitimate reason to stay up til 11:59pm with absolutely no payoff.
So we don't need to explain how we didn't win, but this morning I saw the reason why we did not win the $588,000,000. That darn wishbone. Laura found it while she was de-meating that turkey yesterday and we forgot to snap it. Therefore, neither of us had any luck. No luck, no lottery. That's how it works, right?
We'll save it for when we need it, like summoning nature for a day off or finding $588,000,000 buried in the backyard.

Anything But Turkey
Believe me, I am already sick of turkey. I've only had like two meals in the last few days that have not consisted of some turkey-based product.
Pizzaro's. Of course.
I'm pretty serious about my breakfasts.

Just Folks Giving Thanks
I could tell stories about yesterdays Thanksgiving ongoings but it's still all a little fuzzy. Most of the day was spent noshing on foods and watching football, and then there was the glorious feast and the wine floweth. It all went too fast, but isn't that always the way. We did decide sometime late in the evening, that we are going to invent our own holiday, somewhere in the deads of summer, a la Festivus, so we can do this all again before next November. That's gotta be a good sign, right?
mealtime...
and then what else....

Dorothy, Alpaca & Medeival Helmets
Yesterday we set out to finally find our seasonal pumpkin, of what would become our holiday jack-o-lantern. We like to do the hayride/pumpkin patch/cider donut thing, but this year free time was at all time low and the few mornings we've had free had all been rain outs. This must improve going into next year. Nonetheless we had a nice little morning exploring the Country Junction and discovering the literally thousands of little surprises they had to offer.
Ducks, turkeys, alpacas, pigs, roosters, hens, sheep, goats... all kids of doofy looking animals. Yuula couldn't decide if she loved them , were scared of them or wanted to run them over with a toy lawnmower.
Then we went inside the building. This place is like a Home Depot, Home Goods, Whole Foods all wrapped into one with an uncanny likeness to a Stew Leonard's. These are all good things. It got a little wild tho. Dinosaurs next leather couches next to sailing paraphernalia, some might say the Country Junction could use a little strategic organization, but I say it all added to the adventure.
We tried on some battle armor.
We spent more than our fair share of time in the home theatre demo, but Yuula found it more interesting to mop the stage than appreciate the breakthrough of technicolor.
We did eventually make it to the outdoor market where they had thousands of pumpkins to choose from along with a haunted house, a ferris wheel, a pet shop, a Christmas shoppe, pumpkin chuckin', a lifesize pirate ship, the list goes on really.
We picked out a pumpkin and got on our way. We were there much longer than we expected but we didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into. Maybe this is better than hay in my underpants.
Oh and here's the lucky winner...

Last Night Made Girls Sleepy
The subtle scent of last evening dining still lingered as I brewed my morning teas. I think I woke Danielle up with the gentle wail of the kettle. Poor placement for a guest bedroom I suppose. She's back to bed, as are the other two girls still. I think I have some time to recap last evening...

Girl talk over sizzling turkey & spicy sausage

Yuula learns to make an authentic Italian gravy at a very young age

Laura, ignoring all predisposition, has a difficult time choosing the evenings liquid accompaniment

It was that good

Yuula will forever associate her Aunt Danielle with garlic breath
The evening ended with us flipping thru some stand-up from Gaffigan & Galikianakis on the Google TV (that's a lot of G's) and passing out at an all too early hour. Today the plan includes french toast, fabric & falafel. We're moving backwards thru the alphabet.

Better Than Campbell's
Laura's been brewing up a storm in the kitchen lately. Every time I go in there she's got something stewing on the stovetop. She's gone soup crazy. She's become the soup Nazi. But I can't complain, because it' good soup. I been eating it everyday. Lunch, dinner... that's it. Breakfast would be nasty.
Ham & 16 Bean

Turkey Lentil

Chickenoodle

She says she's got plans for a french onion and maybe a beef barley. I want a nice winter root. Mmmmm rutabaga.
