Harvesting Classically

We joined the Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm this year, and have not done anything with it. So we were determined to attend the Harvest Festival there and at least get some of our moneys worth.

And it was lovely.

Yuula decorated this hideous pumpkin

I beat Laura in corn cob checkers (until she quit)

I finally found where Vashti Bunyan's been hiding

Yuula played some marbles when she could see thru her shag

Laura and Yuula got cast as part of the brood in the bee play

And she rode a damn horse

Good day. Good sausage sandwich. I think we once knew that pig. He was delicious.

A Saturday Full Of Pumpkin And Pride

Got a jump on our pumpkins early this year, and where else but the lovely and wonderful Ross & Ross nursery (tell your friends).  This was like last Saturday, and I'm just remembering now. Blurry.

Yuula picked out a nice white pumpkin only to have it eaten by Judee a few days later. So we  went back and got her another one and have it stored up high for the rest of the month.

She was quite fond of this little guy and even used it for her show and tell at dance class that day. I'm sure it was a hit. 

A dance class that we finally got to watch on television. I was rather impressed. Full stretches, across the floors and some combinations. All we could get out of Yuula was that they gave out lollipops at the end. I circled her in pink. 

After class it was straight off to Boston, and what a lovely drive. The only thing that could have made it better was if I could have gotten into Holy Land. Check it out. 

But we did have like 6 bags of these little nuggets to hold us over. Come to think of it I think half of the food I ingested that weekend was soft licorice. 

First stop: the Fallons, where we hung out with Miles and Isla until they both passed out, I'm assuming from extreme exhaustion. But naturally no such luck with Yuula. She was holding out for the party to get going.

Girls Love Their Gourds

 It was no surprise that the day we planned to head out and get some pumpkins it rained unrelenting. We have come to expect this. So we headed off to Country Junction where we knew we could grab some gourds with little exposure to the elements. Of course when we got there it was suddenly 80 degrees and sunny, but hey, we like the Country Junction.

Yesterday we set out to finally find our seasonal pumpkin, of what would become our holiday jack-o-lantern. We like to do the hayride/pumpkin patch/cider donut thing, but this year free time was at all time low and the few mornings we've had free had all been rain outs. This must improve going into next year. Nonetheless we had a nice little morning exploring the Country Junction and discovering the literally thousands of little surprises they had to offer.



Ducks, turkeys, alpacas, pigs, roosters, hens, sheep, goats... all kids of doofy looking animals. Yuula couldn't decide if she loved them , were scared of them or wanted to run them over with a toy lawnmower.







Then we went inside the building. This place is like a Home Depot, Home Goods, Whole Foods all wrapped into one with an uncanny likeness to a Stew Leonard's. These are all good things. It got a little wild tho. Dinosaurs next leather couches next to sailing paraphernalia, some might say the Country Junction could use a little strategic organization, but I say it all added to the adventure.

We tried on some battle armor.





We spent more than our fair share of time in the home theatre demo, but Yuula found it more interesting to mop the stage than appreciate the breakthrough of technicolor.



We did eventually make it to the outdoor market where they had thousands of pumpkins to choose from along with a haunted house, a ferris wheel, a pet shop, a Christmas shoppe, pumpkin chuckin', a lifesize pirate ship, the list goes on really.



We picked out a pumpkin and got on our way. We were there much longer than we expected but we didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into. Maybe this is better than hay in my underpants.

Was Sleepy And Hollow

We also have a new favorite antique emporium, but not so much for the potential treasures but more the building they're encased in. Laura & I wax poetic often about buying an old barn type building and refinishing it into our living quarters. No matter how wacky it sounds, you'd have to admit this place is cool.



We stopped by for the first time one morning a couple weeks back when the congenial owner Ginger gave us the story of the place and a heads up on upcoming events, one being the fall festival on this particular weekend. I think we were the first ones there.



First ones to lay eyes on some of these nifty pieces.




Yuula liked him. We thought, for her nursery?



We wandered thru the rooms, all built with oversized beams and trusses, letting Yuula gander at all the goodies, testing her capacity for containment. Mostly she just wanted to climb the stairs.



Kenny was impressed.

Laura ended up finding a few planters she dug and got a good deal on them. I found the free snacks in the front room and managed to get Ginger to divulge her secret pumpkin dip recipe. Yuula liked it, it's for Yuula.



As part of the fall festivities Ginger had set out a pumpkin decorating station for the kiddies and since Yuula was the first kiddie, she got her pick o' the litter.



She doesn't quite understand the concept of markers yet, but she had fun!




On the way to the car Yuula's energy spiked and we took her for a run in the field to try and wear her out. Not sure if it worked.
