Out Of Outdoor Shape

Ahhhh, the snow be gone and the garden be calling. We have big plans this year, just like every year. The mystery is whether or not those plans will ever come to fruition. Or fruit.

Off to a lazy start

We had morning distractions of the adorable sort

You can see the mess we left last fall. The winter was no help.

After some lite cleanup we saw our first sign of life

Much cleaner, but it took most of the day

I was rebuilding the rock wall along the side of the property to rightfully reclaim what was ours

But rocks be heavy and I am old and fat

It was still a little chilly to be outside so this guy was bundled right

But it wasn't cold enough to keep us from Maryann's on their premiere weekend. We did eat in the car tho... Brr.

Warm Enough To Walk

Oh my that was the most manic walk around the block I've ever seen. She has truly been cooped up and today she was released into the wild. Good thing no one got in her way. It could have gotten ugly.

And the two buck chuck came along with us, but he didn't come back.

Now To Add Flowers

Yuula ushered in the spring season by spiking this single-winged bumble-buddy into the still frozen soil with such gusto that I thought flowers may burst forth from the ground and all our work would be done for us.

But no. Still dirt garden beds. Got a long April coming here.

Sleephouse Greenhouse

Yuula was awake for only about 5 hours today. She is sleeping off the past week or so of madness, late nights and early mornings. And those flowers? They're inside because we've been working so hard on the gardens only to have the temperature be in the low 30's the past few days, so anything not nailed down is inside. Guess we're skipping spring this year.

Lending Hands Accordingly

Yesterday was my second favorite day of the year, after Christmas. It will be known as "Unloading Of The Spring/Summer Furniture and Decorative Elements for the Gardens and Yard" day. Long, but it paints the picture. the yard took on a bit of a transformation, and Laura got busy planting more vegetables as I dove in head first to the island garden along the left side of the house. The Krupps are up so they lended hands accordingly.

Yuula got involved with the watering efforts and we had a nice dinner of burgers and "weird" hot dogs. Topped it off with Maryann's just 10 minutes before they closed for the night. Let's do it again.

Spring's Park And Purge

Another Unremarkable one for the books, but yesterday was more interesting. I spent the entire day cleaning out the tool shed, for the 4th year in a row. Let's see if this one sticks. With Laura's help I was able to get further alone into some sense of "organization" this year, so there is hope. The most satisfying part of the day came when waste management showed up on schedule and I threw out 15 bags of refuse, along with every old composite shelf I could find on the property. Purged.

After breakfast Laura took the child to meet the Trunks at the park. So I'm sure that was fun. I live through the photos, just like everyone else.

Slides are fun.

The List Is Ever-Growing

This is as fancy a Friday night as we have nowadays. Little supper, little sitcom, little storytime. Now who knows what. Maybe a movie, that we'll fall asleep to undoubtedly. Maybe I'll cut together all that Easter video I took. Probably not tho. I'm sick of sitting at the computer this week. Maybe I will collect some recipes. It's about time for spring harvest.

But this is a work weekend for us. We have a lot of those. Monday is a day off and it better be damn nice out. We need  at least 15 hours in the yard, to start. That's just to scrape the rust off. The list is ever-growing.

Snow Really Tho

This is kinda cool. But I thought it was supposed to be spring. I know, I sound like every news network when I say that but we are frigin ready man. We need some grass. I have leaves left from the fall to rake. And there are flowers to plant and a garden to raise. This will be the year of the homegrown.

It's supposed to snow tomorrow. All day.

Spring Rejuvenates, A Countdown Ruminates

OH! It felt so good to get outside in the warmth yesterday and get our hands in the dirt. Granted all we did was clean up some of the mess made by winter and plant a few flowers, but it really got our spring to sprung and now I can't wait for this weekend when we're gonna spend two whole days working in the yard. Who'd'a thunk it?

The only unknown now is how long will it take for me to give into the heat and shear my woolen coat.

The countdown begins...

And Whoops It's March

We've got the spring fever. We've had the spring fever for a while now. We've been talking so affectionately towards the day when we can get back outside and start working in the yard, the day we can begin planting flowers and vegetables in the garden, raking leaves and the day we can finally start work on this list of projects that's sure to never be complete. That day comes in March when the ground begins to thaw and the weather starts to heat up. Oh we just can't wait for March.

C360_2012-03-04-11-11-39

This morning we woke up and realized that it is March. What are we waiting for now? We finally have 95% of the stuff we want in storage actually in storage, so even tho it was a little brisk out this morning we took our first steps into spring and did a little work in the yard.

C360_2012-03-04-11-32-05

Got busy cleaning out gardens and burning dead things.

I tried to get Yuula to mow some grass but her mower was clearly unfit to take on the job.

C360_2012-03-04-11-34-20

So mostly we just wandered around the yard making mental lists of all the things we'd like to accomplish this summer while Yuula pet/chased the cats.
