Sunday In Name Only
This is Yuula wearing a pillowcase as pants, a dress as a shirt, and some form of miscalculation applying eye makeup. It is a perfect visual representation of the Sunday I tried to have and failed at miserably. Working in the yard for 15 hours would have been infinitely more enjoyable.

Mermaid Madness
We must love our kid
Yuula wants a bicycle for Easter. She wants a very silly bicycle for Easter, covered in mermaid stickers with pink sparkles and that blows bubbles when she rides it. It's completely unreasonable and we almost talked ourselves into buying her a 'normal' bike that we could and down to future kids regardless of their stylistic integrities. But we cracked last minute and decided we'd get her the purple monstrosity. Only problem was, we couldn't find it anymore. Not anywhere near us anyhow. When I finally tracked it down at a Target about an hour or so from our house I bought it and told Laura we'd have to figure it out how we were going to get out there to pick it up. So when Laura got home from work on Thursday night, both still exhausted from a busy early week, we loaded up the children and headed out to pick up the bike. A quick errand with Susie and ham delivery we were off to some unknown backroads with taco bellies and the sun already setting. We got there and split up, her taking the kids and me dealing with the stealthy transfer of what I now call Mermaid Madness. We were tired, after 9pm, still over an hour from home, but at least she's getting her stupid bicycle.
We must love our kid.

Not A Single Parent
My wife left me alone with these kids, for two whole days. The days are what they've been, but it's the nights that I'm not accustomed to. The first night, Aesop did not sleep at all. The second night I prepared with a nice big vat of coffee at 9 at night, only for both kids to pass right out and sleep thru the whole night, while I sat up in bed and caught up with awful all-nite television. I'm tired.
Good thing I had a little bit of help.

Sleep Teasers
It was Friday, and I finished work early, looked over and saw BOTH kids passed out. (Yuula is under the green blanket) I thought I had earned a little 'me-time', even if it had to be taken in close proximity to the sleepers. I decided I'd watch a movie, one that Laura wouldn't ever want to see, and that Yuula wouldn't ever let me. After 20 minutes of searching thru my options it came down to the new Hobbit and the new Superman, neither was I necessarily excited about viewing but more thrilled by the defiant act of self-serving a much needed hefty dose of PG-13 violence and action movie drama into my mushy lullaby brain.
And before the opening credits were finished they both woke up crying; Aesop because he wanted milk and Yuula because she was confused by how she even got into the nap she woke up from.
Next time...
Then this happened...
and this... and then we slept.

Hope For Less Than A Flash
We've got a busy couple of weeks coming up here. Seems like we've jammed a whole lot into these final days of Laura's vacation and I'm just hoping it goes by nice and slow. The best we can hope for is less than a flash.
Aesop had quite a busy weekend, handful of visitors, new and old, young and old, and he slept thru the entire thing. But he's been good at night too. Awake for probably 2 hours a day. Laura thinks it's because he's growing. I think it's because he's lazy and his mother's son.
Yuula was also worn out too. She never takes naps. Some life.
But when she is awake, it gives he a chance to bejewel her brother

All Right And All Tired
She looks like a deranged Wonder Woman
Not much sleep these days. I'm hoping to finally set up the bedside crib, and we'll see if that makes for a better night's sleep. I believe in magic.

Dog Loves Lady, Girl Loves Elephant, I Love Drink
That dog just sits there until Laura gets home. Girls.
Now Yuula is the one with the hacking cough. Could be from her mother or from all the disgusting fast food jungle gyms she played in this weekend. There aren't many winter time choices for us mountain folk come snowy days. But her mother bought her a humidifier after her midwives appointment today. Hopefully the last of many.
She named her humidifier Ellie Van. I didn't know appliances had names. We better get on that before she names my lawnmower Sally Cakes or something. It'll stick. But she was so excited about this damn elephant squirting smoke in her face that she asked to go to bed, skipped the bedtime story and barely said goodnight.
Guess we know where we stand nowadays. That's fine. We got another one coming that will need the shit out of us. You can have your plastic pachyderm steamer.
Just as well. I got eggnog to finish again and it does not taste as good in January as it does in December for some reason. Every year with this stuff!

Joyful Bedriddance
So, I am fully aware that more than a fair share of photos taken in this 2014 are of the girls in the bed, but this is not fiction, and I'm merely depicting what goes on around here. It's not my fault I got one feeling under the weather and another bulging from the guts, two conditions that apparently keep you bedridden. But joyfully bedridden. They don't seem to be down in the dumps. Just down.
These two photos were taken hours apart.
The day went on as planned tho. Laura went to work for the last time (for some time), and I diddled around the house while catching some playoff games in the background. Both my teams lost. And Yuula, she slept. For a good eight hours. And when she woke, her fever had broken, and it seemed like there was a great alignment of the stars, as would be well and a great celebration would be had once the mother returned home, shedding her retail skins and ready to embrace the family and the home and the remainder of her gestational epoch, and that all sorts of grandiosity was in our wake.
Instead...
...she came home, got in bed and Yuula stuck her foot in her face.
Bring on the madness.

Blue Monday Blues
She wanted to go to bed at 3 o'clock today
I seriously thought about it
But I knew that'd mean a middle of the night visitor for me
Which kind of happens lately anyhow
and we don't mind
Winding Down With Waffles
It was a long weekend, and an even longer Sunday, and at 9pm we still hadn't eaten dinner. The closest immediate place was the Waffle House, which I think Laura was counting on, so waffles it was.
Between Laura, Susie, Yuula and myself we ate 6 waffles and all other sorts of breakfast foods and I got to pick the tunes out on the jukebox since we were the only ones there.

I Thought It Was Still August
The story of September is not too exciting as of yet. It had its opportunities, but so far has not delivered. It started with dogsitting. Vic dropped off Daphne while he and Danielle attended a wedding, or got stung by bees or something. The dogs played well. There was some indoor peeing. But all went well.
Here's Vic and Yuula watching Despicable Me.
Vic doesn't recall it.
Yuula displayed her dance skills for everyone, in preparation for her classes that begin in a week or so. Her point ain't half bad.
And while I've been slightly bogged down with work Yuula manages to distract me just enough to keep me from smashing my face thru the monitors.
This happened
Immediately followed by this
And she's still making up for that birthday week
