I've Been Turned
Each night between the hours of midnight and 2am, I indulge in television that I couldn't normally watch during the day, due to the impressionable, but moreover impatient child, and a full grown girl who isn't the slightest bit interested in anything that has everything to do with espionage, politics, or medieval fantasy, unless it stars Ryan Gosling.
So, it is between these hours I get to watch things like Game of Thrones, Band of Brothers, or the latest undertaking, Homeland. Only two seasons in, it's only taken me a couple weeks to catch up with the double crossing double agents double duties. Pretty thrilling stuff. I'm only two episodes from being all caught up and ready for the season 3 premier sometime next month.
And the awesome jazz soundtrack doesn't hurt either.
Up next; Boardwalk Empire.

The One Where Chaplin's A Chaplain
As a semi-concession to Laura's protests of me sleeping with the TV on all night, I've, at the very least, attempted to switch to something not so anti-restful on the screen, and started falling off to old movies. Like 30's and 40's old. Usually I'm not even sure what it is I'm watching, but they're mostly calm in nature so the complaints have decreased.
Until last night...
That's it! The whole movie. Maybe it was because it was so late but we found this to be just ticklish. So much so that I even stayed up to watch the equally hilarious Charlie Chaplin film that followed called The Pilgrim.Yeah I'm running on fumes. But it was worth it. Can't wait to see what's on tonight (aka completely defeating the purpose).

Cut Me Some Sleep
Ever since that 12.12.12.12.12.12.12.12 concert the other night, when I stayed up til 2am to see Paul McCartney take lead with a recently reformed Nirvana, my sleep/awake schedule has been way off. I've settled into a nice little routine the past year or so, bed round 10/11 and drift off to sleepy land, but the past few nights I've returned to my former, pre-poppa days where I'd scour the channels til the sun starts to come up again. And to make matters worse, Yuula has seemed to make a few adjustments in her sleep schedule as well, waking up quite early and taking long long naps right after breakfast, sometimes missing lunch altogether, therefore allowing her to have the energy to stay up late into the night only to wake up around 4/5am the next morning. And I don't think Laura's slept in a couple weeks so...
...we're all screwed up. But it was worth it.
oh Paul, you and you're "jams"
I'm going to bed..

Not Even For The Bestest Bargain
I somehow allowed Eric & Fatih to talk me into a little Black Friday excursion to Best Buy at midnight after Thanksgiving. At first I was kind of excited, thinking solely as a spectator, that I'd either see a trampling mob or some good deals on stuff I can dream about one day owning, more likely the latter. Instead we got a queue. A long, building surpassing queue that passed PetSmart, Bed Bath and then beyond, around the corner and down a dark alley. I managed to strike up some conversation with other line-standers, but immediately regretted that. I shivered some and had to be reminded about 7 times what exactly we were doing there. I still couldn't tell you. Once we got inside the pre-arranged human hamster cage sale items were grabbed and the search for a checkout line began. We stood in the wrong line for about ten minutes but it didn't seem to matter. The boys got some good deals on cameras, photo and video, and I bought a pack of mentos at Black Friday deal price.
I told them this picture marks the moment we stopped being friends.

Woot Heat
Big ups to Brian down in Georgia for keeping an eye out on the Woot for us, because we lack the discipline and necessary wherewithal to stay on it and know a bargain when it smacks us upside the head. This here is a LifeSmart 1500 Watt Quartz Infrared Heater, complete with remote control, something we've been talking about getting for a few years now in an attempt to replace that dreaded pellet stove. We've looked online and in a few shops and just haven't been motivated to pull the trigger, but in tonight's late hour, just as we started to implement the body heating method to go to sleep, this bad boy popped up on Brian's radar and he alerted both Laura and myself. It was a short conversation, mostly between me and myself, because Laura is a victim of the moment and she just so happened to be chilly. So a quick registration and address check later and we own one. So Woot, Brian, late night snap decisions, we can look forward to tearing that pellet stove out soon and laying it to rest.

NYC Troopers, Pt. 3: Midtown
Dinner was had quite late, but I think Ellen's Stardust Cafe may have been one of the highlights of the trip, yes because of all the singing and the good food but also because we allowed ourselves to sit down for awhile.
It was our waitresses last day. She just got a part in Rock of Ages. Congrats Jessie's Girl.
This won't be the last timed I'll ever be serenaded
Times Square was indeed hopping
Yuula was in character heaven
Dylan really dug the Empire State Building and the homeless
Rockefeller is impressive even at 10 at night
Tho none of our cameras were quick enough to prove it, we were in fact on the 10:30 edition of Sportsnite
The Krupps were troopers and proved they were up for any kind of adventure in the city. We didn't get back to the car til 11:30 and finally crossed back into Jersey after midnite. What a day.

The Overpacker And Her Relunctant Sleeper
This is what I deal with. Laura packs a months worth of clothing for a two day mini-vacation and Yuula just wants to watch the bug movie on more time before she goes to bed. One has no concept of moderation and the other an ending. I'll let them keep each other company tonight. The Fifth Element is on.

Damn You Icy Conditions
Just me and the girl tonight. Laura got stuck in NJ due to a hazardous driving situation. Better to be safe. Read Yuula a few books and she was ready for night-night. Now I gotta figure out what to do with this time usually reserved for foot rubs and a glass of wine. I may stay up late, watch Game of Thrones and fall asleep on the couch or something. It's like I'm back in my bachelor days. Bachelor days with a baby monitor.

She Wants To See It Thru
Yuula has decided that it is not time for bed and that she wants to watch the rest of the Jets/Ravens game. She doesn't really care who wins, but it gives the chance to eat some more Kix and play with her school bus some more. Her mother has gone to bed and now it's just me and her. Whoever falls asleep first gets her diaper put in the freezer.

Organic Milk Rendezvous
We needed milk. Laura had cash but a sleeping baby in the backseat. I had no cash but was free to leave my vehicle. We met in the parking lot and made the exchange. Milk bought. Baby stays asleep. Teamwork. That is the most exciting thing that happened to me today.

Finally At 4:18am
The girls are asleep. Yuula decided she was staying up all night. We had different plans, but she didn't bother to run it by us, whether or not we'd mind. We moved the party downstairs because of all the resources at our disposal. It takes a very specific combination of the right mood music, holding her at just the right positions, at the right intervals, interspersed with strategically placed mini feedings and the ever present twinkle lights. Thank God for the twinkle lights. Tonight, in our first moment of desperation, we turned to a pacifier. They don't call them pacifiers for nothing folks. And while that didn't seal the deal completely, it definitely helped. We'll keep that in a safe place for the next emergency.
So, I've got a good mix of Andrew Hargreaves, Murralin Lane, Haruka Nakamura and Aphex Twin's select ambient works playing, keeping the asleep just that way, but now I'm the one who's wide awake. And this pacifier is too small for me...

Deluge Will Be In The Crossword
Ever been woken up from a peaceful nights sleep by a screaming woman? And when you jumped up to find what the fuss was you realized your feet were wet? I have. Very wet. And cold. And you in your "nighttime attire". And then the water was pouring thru the ceiling into the kitchen. I pulled the pots down off the rack and got an eyeful of freezing liquid. We had to move the fridge. It was 3:45am. At least we found all those magnet letters that had mysteriously disappeared. Now I can do a crossword again.Anyhow, I'm off to take care of business and deliver the goods, one... last... time. I'll be at 450 West 41st street between 9th & 10th, if you're in the area. Stop by. Have a laugh. But first we gotta get outta here... and waffles with Amon.

Back To Big Chin
Tonight's Conans last night hosting the Tonight Show. I'll probably watch, if I'm awake. I'm sure he won't be gone for long. He'll pop up on Fox or something and hopefully beat the crap out of whatever turd of a program NBC ends up with.
Hope NBC enjoys their return to mediocrity and substandard middle school comedy. Sad part is, I'm sure it'll be back to #1 within a month. Stupid Americans.
