Basically Back To The Basics

Yeah. Christmas is over, and after I spent the 26th in a depressive whirlwind I bucked up and realized we got another little package just over the horizon that I got a shit-ton of work to do to prepare for. His bedroom is the least of our worries right now, but that is probably also the biggest project that 2014 holds in the early going. His room doubled as a gift-wrapping/gift-hiding hub for the last few weeks and right now it looks like Christmas threw up and was left to stew in its own juices. That on top of the random other items that would fall more into the temporary storage category, I have a feeling I'm gonna be doing a lot of packing in the coming weeks.

That and I have to finish the crib I gifted to Laura half-done. We need to re-work all the baby bottles/diaper supplies back into the homestead, which is not as easy as it sounds. Part of that challenge will be just finding everything again.

This morning Laura's belly looked low. We're taking bets...

That Bumble Always Bounces

Today was a nice little Christmas themed morning. Made some tasty oatmeal, which by the way is getting pretty well refined, and watched some Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. That Bumble always bounces huh?

She really enjoyed the scene where Rudolph and Clarice first meet. She watched intently then looked our way and gave an "awww happy". She's gonna be trouble. Then we went out to see what we could pick off the Christmas "to-buy" list. Did pretty well but time was limited. Came home and Yuula watched Rudolph again, intently, and I'm sure there'll be a third viewing once she gets up from her nap.

But I never noticed what a jerk Comet is in this show. He's really judgmental, as a supposed role model and coach for all those young impressionable bucks. I bet the North Pole has a real bullying problem. But the worst has to be Donner. Causing his son to be so ashamed of his own "abnormality" and then doing a 180 and embracing him when his schnozzola actually proves useful and saves Christmas. Donner is like the Michael Lohan of the reindeer world. My guy is Yukon Cornelius. Silver & gold people. Silver & gold.

Pay attention to the Abominable Snowman's sound effects next time. That is some crazy stuff.

Good Timing Rains

Oh, hey. I have to play a little catch up after a fairly monumental weekend and a busy Monday. Hopefully find some time today, as I had planned to finally mow but the rains say otherwise.

Here's morning...

Whadya Say, Saturday?

I like this setting

We got a couple inches of snow and three noses full of sniffles. Perfect setting for a Saturday family morning. Cozied up by the fire with oatmeal, tea, and a movie, watched Yuula walk around in big shoes and bury herself in all her stuffed animals.

Unfortunately Laura now has to check in at the HG for the evening before we can have the whole day tomorrow. We should make plans. We won't, but let's say we should. Maybe we'll have more snow and can make snow objects. Maybe we'll sleep in til noon and fritter the day away. Maybe we'll make fritters.

Today I have some house chores, being a good little housewife, and baby to care for. She's getting brave. Climbing stairs, jumping off the couch, eating dirt, fun stuff. And her hair is really starting to take on a life of its own. I commented that this morning she looked like Einstein. And then she burped juice.

Saturday Morn, For A Flash

1326549440890

Saturday morning in bed watching cartoons. Kinda can't beat it. But life called and Laura wanted to head off to the gym before work (third day in a row) and I finally wanted to cook up some steel cut oats for my family's breakfast and Yuula, well she was content watching Jack Hanna in bed with a bottle of milk so...

Let's see what we can do on a Sunday morning then.

A Week In Weary

P1270427

We may not have counted on being this wiped out when we made plans to get up first thing this morning and get to work on the garden. We gotta get that chicken wire up so the girls can plant tomorrow, but it doesn't look like it's happening right now.

Many factors have resulted in this Saturday morning being a wash. I'm looking back at our photos and I don't think there's a single day since mid-March that I haven't been up at 5am, including Saturdays, Sundays and even my birthday and our anniversary. I've been putting in the early hours for work, started teaching the RxHS girls again and the projects in the yard (shed/garden/mess) have taken up every possible free moment in between. Add to that a baby that has designated the hours between 2am and 4am as "let's stand up and bounce and slap and scream" time. It's actually kinda funny. We laugh, but it's a tired laugh.

Then yesterday we both woke up feeling pretty crappy. Laura left for work too quickly, but soon after she arrived there we began swapping stories of some pretty debilitating stomach pains and nausea. After some perfunctory examination we determined we had been poisoned, but more likely the combination of texmati, paneer, azienda agricola and yogurt didn't mix well overnight and was causing our innards distress.

Other than that it was a nice past couple of days. My oatmeal recipe is coming along quite nicely and I think by next winter you won't be able to find a better hot breakfast on the mountain.

Yuula has become obsessed with going outside. I take her for a walk about three times a day now. Sometimes down the road, sometime just around the house. She likes to yell at the cats and paw at the grass. Better get some play clothes.

And despite a busy work week the girls found some time to play.

We are going to a birthday party today tho. Isabella, the daughter of Laura's good friend Dunja is turning 1! I plan on getting drunk and jumping off their back deck. Or maybe taking a nap in her crib. It's a party. Anything's possible.

All In Her Days Off

Pretty awesome taco huh? Well, as always, Laura's day off went way too fast. She got on a spring cleaning kick at 5am even tho the trees still look like frosted mini wheats. She bought a sewing machine. We better get some new drapes. I got a box of pants that need mending that I've been holding onto for years. Maybe I'll get that out. I listened to new albums by the Strokes, Timber Timber and Explosions in the Sky. The Mets won 16-3 over the Cardinals. Laura made meals for the next two weeks. Sausage vegetable soup, beef barley and something we call tomoylikash. Yuula ate some oatmeal with gusto. Then we had taco dinner. I think you're caught up.
