Girls Night, In.. Down

P1170818

It's girls night out. Or girls night in. They're downstairs, eating pizza and talking about God knows what. Girl things. I'm better off tuning them out. Høgni is being cautious.

P1170820

Week is half over. I'm beat and ready for bed. Just waiting for my dad to call me back... trying to help him print something out online... there's issues.. or something.

P1170813

Laura officially looks pregnant. Strangers asked. I think that's a sign. Brave move if you ask me. You never know 100%. Could really insult someone.

P1170815

We've been getting the cats back outside. We forgot that Obladi likes to roll in the soot. She's no longer a calico. She's just black. Stupid cats.

The Last Black & Whites

Seems like our camera broke. Went to take a shot late last night and it wouldn't turn on. Not the good one my parents got us for the wedding, the cheap one we take with us everywhere because, well, we break cameras, apparently. It's been going for awhile, taking fuzzy photos and working slowly, so it's not a total surprise. We bought it about two years ago, and after using it everyday for two years, sometimes twice a day, I guess we can't be all that mad it died. For now I'm keeping it on life support to see if it's just in a temporary coma. Think I'll pull the plug sometime next week.

These are the last random black & white photos we took with the Canon PowerShot A1000 IS:

A Lull In The Goings

IMG_2661

Hey! Hi. Remember me? Yeah me neither. We've had a bit of a turn-around kind of month so far this February. I've been working long hours and Laura's been eating and apparently sleeping for two. You'd think she could sleep for both at the same time but she assures me they each need their separate and individual 8 hours. Who am I to say?

I am gonna try to get this thing back on track. Early mornings, long days and commutes will not defeat this once mighty memoir. People need to know that I ripped my pants at work last Wednesday and continued to work for 7 more hours or that Laura made guinea hens Thursday night while we struggled to stay awake thru Lost or that Alps' scars have finally healed over and he'll let me pet him again. This is vital information that must be disclosed to the greater public! I have a job to do here people. Let me do it.

I will attempt to write up a few tidbits about the previous week and trickle them out to you over the next couple days so you can once again wake every morning with the expectation of a hot cup of coffee, our Cheerios and sit down to enjoy some delight unwitted banter from yours truly.

Does anybody really do that? Besides my dad? Hey Dad!

All The Cool Cats Are Doing It

Aww man we found these awesome new collars that all the cool cats are wearing! They're so stylish and the cats seem to really like them! It doesn't make it hard for them to eat or drink or not walk in to walls or anything! The price is pretty steep but you can't put a price on comfort. And the best part is, when you buy one collar you get a free ovariohysterectomy! Bargain!!!

Another Mother

We only check the mail maybe once a week. Let it pile up and then I'll go down and get it. Yesterday was the first time in maybe ten days either of us have gone down to the boxes. Glad I decided to go before the weekend because I saw this posted on the bulletin...

IMG_1576

That's our cat! That's Obladi. She had been hanging around the house more and we had seen her not too long ago. Maybe a week or so, but she's an outdoor cat and she likes it that way so we let her explore. But apparently someone found her and we knew she had been looking pretty pregnant so...

IMG_1570

Yup. There she is. The people who had found her in their backyard were quite nice and informed me that there were originally three babies, but when they found her one had died already. They had taken good care of her for the week and now I got to bring her home. Before I left I asked if they wanted a kitten in a few weeks. They said no.

Grand total is up to 12.

Obladi Sightings & Other Goings-Ons

We locked the cats inside the weekend we left for Tyler & Melissa's wedding. Four days outside alone was a little much, mainly because I'm sure they would've run out of food early in day two, what with all our little furry woodland creatures out and about and starving. Anyhow, Obladi was not happy about it when we got back and she all but rocketed out that door and didn't show her face again for a couple weeks. Well into a month and we hadn't seen our little calico, but then by chance we went round the longway home one day and saw her rolling around in our "neighbors" driveway. Laura popped out and ran right over to try and pet her and maybe coerce a visit home.

IMG_0945

This guy already doesn't like us (long story short, he invited us to his family's July 4th party but we couldn't go, it was right after we moved in and we were quite busy, so now he hates us) and now he finds out the cat belongs to us. He said his wife was feeding her and named her Cali. Original. Laura informed him that her real name was in fact Obladi and that she was in fact pregnant. Awesome. I think the next day they stopped feeding her because she's been coming around quite a bit lately.

IMG_0964

Good news. Thought we lost another one to the wilderness.

Other than that, another failed attempt at yard grooming yesterday.

IMG_0960

Couldn't get either the chainsaw or the weedwacker started. I've decided we live in a black hole that doesn't allow for gas-powered lawn tools to operate. Laura think's I wronged a witch or a wizard in my past and I'm cursed. That must be it. So instead we went inside and had a few drinks and listened to music.

I don't remember going to bed.

Our + Easter = Ourster

It's weird when you become older and are confronted with a holiday like Easter. I remember the excitement of the hunt, little specks of candy color all over our yard, of yellow & pink & all the other horrible pastels mixed in with the landscape. Each one of us kids would get our favorite cookies, gingerbread men for me. And the toys that seemed to only be allowed one day a year, that day, like frisbee, jumprope, blowing bubbles, and other weird combinations of throwing things at one another & running that may or may not have involved velcro and/or oddly shaped plastic "equipment".

IMG_4281

Anyhow, I'm 30 now and that stuff don't do it for me. Sorry. So what to do on this Easter? This holiday, where apparently, for hundreds of years people have made up their own little ways to celebrate the events that make us circle this day on our calendars. How about nothing? Or as close to it as we can get while still breathing.

Took the kittens out but it was chilly and Obladi kept getting lost in the swamp islands. Worry.

IMG_4270

We made eggs goldenrod, an Estler legacy. Sorry we don't have any photos of the final product. We were hungry and it went fast. Delicious.

IMG_4275
IMG_4277

For some reason I affiliate Easter with donuts, and they have that new berries 'n' kreme treasure at the Dunkin Donuts so, who was I to fight what shall become a new Easter tradition.

IMG_4289

And we watched the Office. BBC version tho. On Easter it would only be proper.

Finally, Photo Frenzy

IMG_3506

I think she may actually start trying to organize her photos. She's got some classics let me tell you. Of course then I will probably have to scan them all in for her but, I guess it's worth it.

The cats helped.

Life With Less Color

Where have we been? I haven't posted anything significant on here since last week. And of course the significance of said posts are deemed questionable as well. Ok what no-good have our souls been up to.

Last Wednesday I photographed a lovely winter sunset, may be the last one this season.

IMG_2570

And then Thursday night Laura & I moved the toaster into the living room so we could enjoy some toaster strudels and not miss our television program. I wonder if the design you make on your toaster strudel tells anything about your personalities. Can you tell which strudel is whose?

{answers below}

Friday was relatively uneventful, in that we saw no relatives. Ha! But no really, we didn't do much. I did however learn how to set my camera to take black & white photographs. Madness ensued.

IMG_2602
IMG_2643

Saturday was Saturday. I had planned on being out of town but plans got pushed back. Highlight of the day: probably this delicious salad and watching Man On Wire. Great film about the other day everyone stared up at the World Trade Centers and one you should definitely see, if you can, again, stand French subtitles. Aren't we such movie snobs?

IMG_2630

Sunday. Now Sunday was a big day. We have been making big plans. Big plans that involve windows, toilets, stackable washer/dryer & sledgehammers. But we needed to do some clearing of a mess that's been accumulating since May 23rd, the day we moved in. I say we made a ton of progress and are quite pleased with where we are in these developmental stages, even tho it meant throwing out my favorite found couch.

IMG_2667

We also discovered the sepia setting on our camera and used it on some close-up photos.

Oh! And Laura made bread. It's gone already.

IMG_2695

Monday was back to the grind, but I had a free moment and pretended to play stalker. I think I freaked out some old ladies.

IMG_2762

Yesterday was a whole new adventure, but I'll have to get to that later on. I got stuff to do.
