Tragic Cats And Tinkle Fingers

It's a bad week to be a cat here. Gabukobiwe showed up after going missing for over a month and she was pretty torn up and quite skiddish. She was never jumpy before. Must be battle trauma. Then Høgni showed up while we were gardening and she somehow managed to get the entire right side of her body covered in some kind of tar that has hardened into a sticky black shell. We tried to bathe her but that may have upset her more than being paved did. Then we noticed that Fawsja's four kittens has mysteriously become three. We hope for the best, but know better.

In slightly happier news, Yuula has taken up a musical instrument...

...only because she can now reach it. There will never be another quiet moment.

No More Spring Chickens

Gabukobiwe and Zoyla going under the knife today. We gotta stop this multiplying. They're like Gremlins. So no more kittens after today. Except for ones already in Fawsja's belly. Hey! Anybody want a kitten?

All Cats Out

It's been a long time coming, but as of this weekend this house is feline-free. Gabuk had a litter in July or something and they've been living in the spare bedroom upstairs, but we made a vow upon the arrival of the baby that the cats would become second class citizens. Sounds bad but... they are cats. Besides, they love it out there.

So out of 5, we kept three, and they're outside, learning the ropes but barely leaving the front porch. That's fine for now. They need to stay safe from the foxes. So we kept orange, tiger stripe & black. We need to come up with names. I'm thinking something like Zasimo or Binew or something like Roger Dodger. Time will tell. Let's see who survives the week.

A Guitar, Kittens & Korma At Least

Today we filled the storage space. There's very little room left in there, but there's much more room upstairs and in the shed so... win/win. We also went on a hunt for a daybed for the continuing transformation of the laundry room into guest bedroom. So far we have curtains. We hit up a few places, trying not to pay full price of course and struck out, but at the third yardsale I picked myself up a little consolation prize...

And for only $9! The youngest daughter was manning the shop at the time and since she seemed to have no idea and blurted out the first number that came to mind I said "Deal!" before she could reneg. But we did pick up the pace down the driveway when we heard the Dad come out and say "You sold the guitar for $9?!". Oh well.

I sweat about twelve gallons of fierce strawberry gatorade today, between all the loading and unloading and reshaping of rooms. The back room is now the baby's room and the office is now the front room. These names have meaning. And we moved Gabuk up to the front room, along with her 5 kittens, and she seems more than content. Much nicer accommodations than the old doghouse outside. And Fawsja's are roaming the house nowadays, entering that sickeningly cute phase of hopping about and chasing feet. Couple more weeks for them.

Add to that, I went to a record store today and for the first time made money. I met a west coast man there, made a few suggestions, and felt good about helping him in his aimless search. Poor guy. I should've given him my number. He's gonna need help again. And then Laura made chicken korma and we watched The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassusm which was... interesting. The Mets are down by 6, two innings away from being swept. Good way to start off the second half. I think it's time for bed....

Oh, Ike Davis just hit a two run homerun. It's something.

We Have A Lion Pride

It was like Animal Planet in the front yard this morning. I thought it was weird that no one came to the morning feeding. Then I saw Gabuk hovering over something in the yard. I thought all the bunnies had left town long ago. Maybe they should've.

Looks like it was Gabukobiwe's kill, which is impressive because she's pretty pregnant.

P1200180
Alps decided to exercise his alpha male status.

P1200184
He ran off with his prize, since the girls were closing in.

I spared you the real graphic photos. I gotta couple wicked innards shots. We'll save those for another day.

Good Mood Day

IMG_1666

We wake up with animals all over us every morning. Sometimes earlier than morning. It's usually little Fawsja or Obladi, or sometimes it's Alps who is humongous. This morning it was Gabukobiwe. They were all in there somewhere tho. That's gonna have to change real soon.

I was gone all weekend. Short weekend tho. Saturday morning to Sunday evening with 6 hours of drive time in there.

The gang did well and I think I may have broken my previous record for amount staged in one weekend, but I can only take so much credit. Be back next weekend to finish it off and start to clean it up, because it is a mess. Oh is it a mess.

Got home last night to catch the last couple minutes of the Jets/Chargers game. I was listening on the radio but I must drive thru some kinda of Bermuda triangle area because every 10 minutes my radio became nothing but intense static and I had to search the airwaves for another station carrying the broadcast. Annoying only because every time I got back to the game I had missed an interception or the score had changed, but I expected to miss the game so... something's better than nothing. Hope I'll be so lucky next weekend. And I'm not gonna even talk about who I want to win for fear of jinxing it. If you know me, you know.

But it was all good because I came home to a rested wife, some Manwiches and some delicious blueberry themed dessert. Followed by my previously mentioned night of kitten cuddling, how could I not be in a good mood today.

Obladi & Family

This a family photo if I've ever seen one.
