Show Us How She Been Reaching
Today was about one thing. Luckily. Laura had been so worried that she'd miss Yuula's first "performance" giving birth to that boy in her belly, but he stayed put and cooperated nicely. I'm thinking that will be the last time for awhile.
This is Yuula's dance class. Miss Victoria and Miss Rianna are her teachers and she does love them so
Class started off strong with a little circled up song and dance
They hit the barre hard and with gusto
Think these two are friends?
Yuula got very serious when it was time to display her ballet technique
I gotta say, I was pretty impressed at how seriously she took and that she wasn't shy in front of everyone
Miss Victoria had Yuula up front and center, but I'm not reading into that too much
Across the floors were a little more, how do you say, adventurous? But entertaining nonetheless
Ended ballet with a curtsy
Tap was a welcome, if not for the ears, at least picking up the tempo a little
She put on a little show for us, which is exactly what we came to see
Probably my favorite move of the day
And finish off strong with the choo-choo
Her recital is in June. I honestly can't wait.

Something About Cauliflower
The team did well tonight. Individual breakdowns. We'll nip that in the butt on Tuesday. T-minus......

Put Some Voodoo On It
From the lady tux to the hair poof and the slide step to the cape adorning this is the best live TV performance I've seen in a long time. Watched it like 4 times now.
Yes it may be a James Brown rip-off but, this puppy really kicks in the end there so, eh? And James didn't have P-Diddy cameos.

Let Me Think About It
The scene of the crime

Friday night was fun tho. Greg had been commissioned by Hunter University to be part of an art performance installation based on American pageantry. The basis pretty much, explained by Darren, the charming proprietor of the gallery on west 41st street with an odd little Scottish accent, was to remove the barriers commonly found between a would-be spectator and the groups performing in each room of the warehouse. First thing that came to mind was that those barriers are really only there so someone doesn't get knocked the hell out, but hey, this might be fun.

We functioned like a normal guard unit would, showing up late and not being prepared in the slightest. We managed to throw together a few combinations thta most of us caught on to. I remained in the rear to allow for maximum entertainment and least possible injury to innocent gawkers.

And there were gawkers. Quite a few. I was surprised actually. These art show crowds can be quite easily intrigued. But not as surprised as when the Hungarian band came in blasting their sousaphones and saxomophones, skirted dancers in tow and integrated themselves into our attempts at "pageantry". My crew seemed less than amused. I loved it.

The whole shebang was only about 2 and a half hours, but considering I hadn't done this since I was 22, my limit was reached about 45 minutes in. I hung in there because it was my swan song, but I was mostly doing runs and skipping the reps. In the end I gave you a few good takes and can feel good about it being the very last time I put myself on the stage. Curtain call? Nah.

And when I took my water/text/nap breaks Laura, like a good wife, filled in for me. She hadn't learned anything but of course that didn't stop her.

She's still got it.
The evening ended up exactly how it should have. With silk hanging from the rafters and me breaking a light. It's only fair.

Concert Woes
We haven't been to a show in ages. It'll be 2 years on December 12th. Mostly because we're busy, teaching highschool doesn't leave much opportunity to get out to a venue. Plus we make it hard on ourselves. It's a balancing act ya see, getting a band worth seeing that'd put on a great show with plenty of good songs and being able to see them in an atmosphere hipster-free and of a smaller less-accommodating square footage. It's a balancing act.
We've been invited to a few shows up in Boston by Eric, just could never get up there. He's seen Dirty Projectors like 4 times this year, and rightfully so. Luckily we got a chance to see them at The Eyedrum in Atlanta, gosh maybe 3 years ago now. Dunno. We didn't take photos. It will live in our memories at one of the craziest and most profound live musical experiences I think either one of us will ever be part of. I think we paid $8. Ain't paying that to see those guys now. They're playing the Bowery on Wednesday: $89.
And even when we do find a band we think will fit our pretentious requirements, we usually are struck by pure bad timing, being busy or missing them coming to town. Just last night we were listening to this new remarkable album by Surfer Blood. We thought..
I've been really digging this new album by Chris Garneau and he's playing the First Unitarian on December 11th, so maybe we won't go two years without seeing show. We'll see what happens. It's all very exciting.

"Man this is great! We should go see these guys."
"Let's check out their tour schedule."
"Oh! Good they're coming to Philly!"
"When?"
"Tonight."
"Oh."

Smaller & Darker
I'm not sure where the past couple days have gone. I know they involved massive amounts of home invading insects, power outages, gorditas in a Petco parking lot, political corruption, bears, at one point I was in Giants Stadium and I'm pretty sure I was on the phone with the Supreme Court. But after yesterday Laura & I may be solely responsible for the extinction of ladybugs in the northeastern United States.
Prepare yourself for this one...
That's just one vacuum load. We did three more after that.
Could've been my last time in good ol' Giants Stadium on Wednesday. Tearing it down to make way for the new one, which I saw in the shadows but didn't wanna ruin the surprise. It's funny, all these years I've been there tons of times, I'd say upwards of 60, and never seen so much as a blue-42 shotgun-hike, nonetheless a whole football game. Just this...
That's all behind me now and I'd like to move on. Couple more weeks of this season, and on to bigger & brighter. Or maybe smaller & darker. That sounds better to me right now for some reason. Let's go with that: smaller & darker.
