Jack-No-Lantern
(from October 28th)
We didn't carve a pumpkin this year. I'm still kinda upset about it. But we did at least go buy some pumpkins. All Laura wants are the seeds anyhow.
We gotta carve at least his.

Ready To Spook
Is there a Halloween Eve? It used to be for causing mischief. Now it's for carving pumpkins and eating spaghetti.
Yuula is now old enough to carve her own gourd
They never turn out how you hope
Ready to spook

Waiting Til Witching Hour
We pulled it together, in the witching hour, one may say, and one may be eerily correct. Right after inhaling our scary bagel bites we hopped to it, grabbed the butcher knife and the baby and got to work.
We went with a simple design for this season's Jack-O-Lantern
... and a swampy vibe for the girl's costume
... with a delicate little twist.
The weather didn't allow for any trick or treating. We got zero. So Yuula gets to eat all the Snickers (if we don't tonight).
The Jack-O-Lantern, tho simplistic in nature proved to be horrifyingly effective.

We Went With No Nose
Carving night. Rescheduled from Tuesday. I don't know what happened Tuesday. I think we went to bed early I dunno. Not the point...

The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown was on. Good timing. We took our places on the floor, as is tradition. This is like our 4th or 5th pumpkin, so I think it can officially be called tradition.

Yuula did not seem disturbed by seeing her father wielding a sharp knife and gouging away at a defenseless gourd. That is until she saw what was inside.

I bet it tastes better than the jar of pumpkin baby food she's gonna be eating next year. Then, in a total surprise, Yuula decided that, like football, pumpkin carving was boring, so she went to sleep.

She kinda looks like a pumpkin huh?

Carving done. Kinda looks like a mix between Cookie Monster & Meatwad. We'll call him Cookiewad. Delicious.

Add him to the collection.

The Mouth Alone Took An Hour
We decorate our tree on Christmas Eve. We carve our pumpkin on Halloween Eve. We won't be participating in any dishing out of candies tho, as we will be neck deep in pageantry at J. Birney Crum. That's fine tho, considering how we got pillaged by a group of teenagers in costumes of questionable effort last year. Ripped jeans are not a costume, unless everyday is Halloween. What kids'll do for a mini Snickers. Oh glorious Halloween.
So we carved. The innards always make for a good photo.
Laura froze them so over the next year she can add pumpkin to every meal. I can't wait for pumpkin spaghetti, pumpkin pancakes, and pumpkin seed sandwich on rye with mayonnaise. Sorry Miracle Whip. Mmmmmmm.
This little kitten pretty much named herself last night when she decided to exhibit her insatiable appetite for anything pumpkin.
We couldn't keep her away. So she will known as Peterpeter. We'll see if that sticks.
And now, without any further ado... our Halloween Travis-&-Laura-O-Lantern for the '09.
I don't really even remember carving it. I must've been in the zone. Here's a few closeup shots, enlarged to show detail.
Awesome, I know right.
Happy Halloween!

Now we just have to get some punk kids to come eat this bucket of candy.
