Seems like our boy Abner has moved on.
We have been attempting to acclimate the cats to the outdoors in hopes of this spring making them outdoor pets, and taking them outside every once in a while when we go out. Mostly they're cautious, creeping around slowly and sniffing every inch of grass and dirt, not really knowing what to make of it all. Abner liked it the best, lying at the window day and night staring outside, begging to go out everytime we opened the door. That, we thought was promising, but little did we know of how badly he wanted to be out there.
Last Monday night we were bringing in the cushions from the patio furniture and this boy took off. We looked after him for a minute but he didn't seem to wanna be brought back in. So we left him. He had spent the night outside before and was at the front door in the morning ready to come in to eat and oddly, use the litter box. So we figured he'd be fine. And hopefully he is still fine. He's just not here. He hasn't come to eat or anything. We left out some food but it only attracted raccoons (and now Fran wants one of those). So who knows.
I just hope he's ok. We haven't seen any cats on the side of the road and there's lotsa strays around here just floating around so maybe he's joined a gang or something. Dunno. I guess he wanted out tho. Enough of the girls or didn't like the fact we just got four new kittens, or maybe he just really wanted out. It's not a surprise. He's been in love with the outside for a long time. So, I'm guessing he's out there somewhere. Hopefully getting enough food and licking the drops out of faucets and sleeping in the sun and such. He's probably loving it.
