Faneuil Hall Looked Lovely Last Night

There it is. The remnants of last evenings election party. It was just Laura and I, but we had a good time following the live fb'ing, hearing Wolf Blitzer shriek every time he saw a close race and playing with the online interactive electoral college maps. We might use the electoral system to make decisions around the house from now on, like what's Ohio telling us is for dinner, or what does Colorado think we should do on our day off (hmm). Favorite lines on fb were:

"I guess Claire McCaskill had a way of shutting that whole thing down"

"Diane Sawyer is either wicked blotto or having a stroke"

"Aww, I was really looking forward to getting my own planet"

"The trailer for Lincoln looks really good"

Presidential race aside, it's quite an impressive result in the Senate and cool to see provisions passing in Maine, Maryland and (I think) Washington. I've been following it as much as a anyone can and I'm mostly relieved it's over. I guess I'll stay tuned to see what happens next. But first... oatmeal.

And Then There Was One

*NEW YEAR'S UPDATE*

P1240661

Baby New Year has gone to bed, followed closely by her mother and as soon as this glass is empty, her father. I may survive in a purely catatonic state to watch 12 year olds lipsync in sequined stripper outfits and Dick Clark drool on his microphone, but don't quiz me on it tomorrow morning.

(If you are still up, and for some reason reading this, I may have one more tidbit left for 2010, if youtube would hurry the hell up. It's nothing that can't wait, but I'd like to go out on somewhat of a high note. About 11 minutes remaining...)

Midnight Doesn't Stand A Chance

Pork steak and potato wedges was the choice for last meal of the year. We just finished Season 5 of Weeds. Oh boy Shane. What did you do now? We just found out that we'll have to wait til February for Season 6 to come out. Moving on to Dexter I suppose. Or maybe Mad Men. We will get our feet wet. But I'm having to convince Laura to stay up for New Year's ball drop. See, we have a strict 9pm bedtime here with no exceptions, focused towards baby, but Laura loves the bedtime and I have my suspicions. Right now I got her interested in this vaccination documentary I found on Google TV, trying to keep her up, but I think it's causing paranoia. It's not exactly a measles mumps rubella kinda evening. We may change to something a bit more lighthearted, it being New Year's and all.

So the house is clean, the cider is gone I just poured myself a little Bulleit bourbon and I plan on soldiering thru to midnight, if midnight only. We've put the film on hold, are giving my newly formed "best of 2010" playlist a spin and giving Yuula a dancing lesson. We may make it afterall. No promises. There's always next year, next year and next year. And I'm looking forward to it, as usual, but forward to it being nothing. I need a break. 2006 we got engaged, 2007 married, 2008 we bought a house, 2009 got pregnant and 2010 had a baby. I want to 2011 to be special for nothing in particular. Let's see what we can do eh?
