The morning after the wedding was a typical one for us. Yuula woke up at 6am and didn't care how hungover her parents were. We got up and headed upstairs for some quiet family breakfast on the back deck while the rest of the house stayed in bed and sun came up.
Then we woke up Mark Maguire and decided to watch some Sunday morning television. After flipping quite literally thru thousands of possibilities we settled in on American Psycho.
Mike and Andrea returned from their love suite at the Old Mill about 30 minutes before the ending but they got to see the classic naked-down-the-hall-with-a-chainsaw scene so all was good.
Today was meant to be the tourist-y day, but since it was already almost 1pm when we left the house our plans had to be short and to the point. It was also Saturday so many things would start to shut down around 5. Times was a-wastin'.
The first place we went was the St. Lawrence Market. A glorious, tightly packed market full everythings and anythings. Reminds me greatly of Faneuil Hall in Boston, a place I frequented quite often, just on a much grander scale.
All that food left us hungering to fill our belly holes so Mandrea escorted us further uptown into the financial district for lunch at an old court house turned fancy pizza joint called Terroni. We got four pies with scattered combinations of cheese, sauce, spicy sausage, arugola, pear and other slightly pizza related items. Delicious.
From there we headed over to the Distillery District, a wonderfully restored neighborhood of Victorian industrial buildings with no cars allowed and surprises behind each shop entrance. Wish we had more time to explore. More time and less rain.
By this point we were all fully exhausted from wedding events and running from the weather. We headed back to the love shack for some floor naps and cornholing.
What a way to end a great weekend. Thanks Mike and Andrea. I know you're reading :)
First class breakfast. Laura & I made the potatoes and I peeled my own orange. My new favorite is cream cheese on toast.
Mike was showing off his Wii that he had rigged to play every game from Nintendo, Sega, Gameboy, Super Nintendo, Atari, Playstation, Super Nintendo, Xbox... pretty much any game ever made. And with this enormous wealth of endless arcading at our fingertips what do we choose to play, but the original Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.
For some reason that left Laura & I craving Thai food so we took Mark and hit the main streets while the bride and groom enjoyed their final moments of pre-weddedness in some form of privacy.
We got some delicious lunches at Simply Thai. I got the pineapple chicken curry, Laura got the pad Thai (the staple to judge one Thai restaurant against all others) and Mark got peanut chicken. Yuula had a fit. She did not care for the quieted business lunch hour the restaurant took on so she decided to spice things up a little. The place was cleared out before we got our spring rolls. Atta girl.
Here's some of that lush and delicious produce I was telling you all about...
Blueberries the size of a baby's fist. Or maybe those were prunes. Either way, well done Toronto.
Then, just before turning the corner home we stopped and got some buttermilk ice cream, mainly because we couldn't get past this slightly disturbing billboard.
I'm not gonna lie, we were excited to get the hell out of this house with no power and this country with no Tim Horton's. Our friends Mike and Andrea were tying the knot and we were invited to attend the festivities.
Mike & Andrea live in an adorable little cottage in on the outskirts of Toronto, Bloor West I think I heard it called. Bloor West has the most lush and delicious looking sidewalk produce I have ever seen. The happy couple was kind enough to open their doors to us, the Sacktig-Owens', the Bentons and a drifter named Mark Maguire.
We accompanied them on the walk to the venue for the rehearsal. Love was in the air.
The event was to take place at the magical Old Mill just a hop, skip and a jump from their house. Or a ramp, hill and a bridge. Lovely place all the same.
