I'm pissed!
I'm not really. I mean I was a couple years ago when I first realized this but, then I got over it and then this morning, randomly (I know it was random because the playlist was set to shuffle) up pops "Heinrich Maneuver", a track off Interpol's Our Love To Admire, a great track off a good album, but I couldn't help but once again feel artistically assaulted.
At this point I'm sure you have no idea what in the world I am talking about if you've even gotten this far (I know I can let things wander aimlessly at times).
Let me show you something.
This here is the cover for previously mentioned Our Love To Admire by Interpol.
Cool huh?
And here is another album by a little outfit called Ola Podrida.
Notice anything similar?
Wait there's more! Here is The Snow Magic by Dark Dark Dark.
Getting creepy huh?
The question has to arise "Well who was the genius who came up with the idea to photograph animal exhibits in a museum and make them the cover of your album?"
The answer is - me.
Back in 2005 I took these photos at the Field Museum on a trip to visit my sister & Vic out in Chicago and upon returning home to Atlanta turned them into artwork that would adorn the cover of some tracks I had been working on the previous months, all potential of course.
The 1st and 3rd are my favorites.
Facts
- Ola Podrida put their sel-titled long player out on April 24th 2007. Way to screw me day before my birthday.
- Interpol's version of my brilliant artistic stylings came out later that summer, July 10th 2007
- Dark Dark Dark dropped their weak attempt at obvious plagiarism late last year, October 28th 2008
- I took these original photos on April 11th 2005, and created the covers shortly thereafter
In reality, I could care less. Was just reminded of the whole thing this morning as I said... if anything I'm a little flattered, and chances are someone has probably done it before all of us (not that I've found any mind you). Not like I was ever gonna do anything with these. They are cool tho, huh? I like mine way better. Oh and I did a penguin one too.
And the name Moses at an Early Age? Old joke. But I still like it. Simultaneously biblical & secular. Not the point. What is my point?
